alas, it's time for the last race of the 2006 season, and the final race of Schumacher's Illustrious career, the Brazilian GP! :D

Alonso has basically won the championship for the second year in a row, since all he needs to do is finish 8th. the only way Schumie can win is if he wins and Alonso fails to get any points (hmm, will Massa take one for the team and punt Alonso out of the race? ;)). so, all Ferrari can realistically hope for is the constructor's championship. trailing by nine points, Ferrari should hope for a 1-2 finish, and some ill-fortune to befall Renault, to gain at least one of the 2006 titles.

the first three positions in Friday practice were occupied by testers. Trulli was 4th, Ralf 7th. Button was 5th, Montagny for Super-Aguri was 8th with Kimi in 9th. Schumacher was 6th and Alonso 10th.

Brundle on Schumie: http://www.itv-f1.com/Feature.aspx?Type=Martin_Brundle&PO_ID=37788

Brundle also thinks that Schumie is retiring one year too early, as he would be able to beat Raikkonen, not to mention the rest of the field (especially the former Michelin-teams): http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=37791

I had a dream that Alonsos engine went pop on the last lap and Schumacher wins the championship.

well, that sucked. Schumacher, having finished the fastest in the second qualifying session, limped around the course in the third and penultimate qualy session of the season/his career, with a fuel feed problem (whatever that is). he promptly entered the pits and stayed there for the entire 15 minute session, posting no time. he could have easily bested the rest of the field; he had the fastest time of the entire afternoon. ah well, so much for a final battle for the championship/constructor's title.

Massa starts first, followed by Raikkonen and Trulli. Alonso is fourth, ahead of Barichello, Fisichella and R Schumacher. the two BMWs are 8th and 9th, and Schumie is 10th.

Schumacher's problems. what an anticlimactic weay to end the season and a career. what could have been an amazing finish ended last race when Schumie failed to finish with a blown engine and again we have been deprived of drama with more technical woes for Ferrari. if he has to change an engine then i may not even bother watching the race: http://www.formula1.com/race/news/5162/769.html

he had power, and fuel when he entered the pits, on SPEED, they said he couldnt upshift. ANd they tried changing his gearbox in under 15 mins, it didn't happen. But he did enter the pits under power, UNLESS he could only get fuel while idling.

Go ahead and watch the race, it's a part of history. Don't count MS out, he's ONLY 10th, not last. It can still happen, I've seen him pull off a win in more dire conditions.

I'm with you. Although he's starting from 10th. I wouldn't surprise at all if he is in the podium.

As for the drivers championship, I do think it's over. But constructors championship still wide open.

i'll still watch, but it could have been so much better. :)

10 laps in and it's over. Schumacher had a rear flat and he's last.

edit: lap 37, he's now 8th.

edit 2: passed Kubica on lap 41 (for the second time) and is 7th.

i'm still waiting for the heavens to open, a lightning bolt strike Alonso's car, and Schumacher cruise into first place. :D

edit 3: lap 52, 6th place for Schumie.

edit 4: Fisi messed up, Schumie in 5th.

It was a great race and a great finish of this season.true, dat. whilst it wasn't the ending i was hoping for, it was an exciting race. Schumie put on a show in his last race.

despite an early tire puncture that forced Schumie to the pits and dead last, he fought his way through the field and finished 4th. not good enough to win the championship or help Ferrari win the constructor's crown, but an amazing display nonetheless. Schumie ends his career displaying his great driving talent and strong desire to compete. http://www.tsn.ca/auto_racing/news_story/?ID=181605&hubname=auto_racing

Eddie Jordan believes that Schumie was forced to retire. the signing of Raikkonen and Massa's development may have made Schumacher an unnecessary expense. i have trouble beleiving this. Schumie is money in the bank. he returned Ferrari to glory by winning. and his popularity is undisputed: in every venue, Ferrari flags are prevalent. they wouldn't want Schumie out if he was committed to another season: http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=37829

oh, some guy named Massa won the race for Ferrari. and some guy who goes by the name of Fernando Alonso won the championship by finishing second. and, apparently, Renault won the contructor's title.

Button was third. Kimi was fifth, followed by Fisichella, Barichello and de la Rosa. notable finishes was Sato in 10th in the Super Aguri and Speed in 11th for the Red Bull B-team. notable non-finishers were both Toyotas and both Williams', as well as DC in the Red Bull.

You were right all along BigC. He sheared off a fuel pickup gear!

His engine was running, but only at his idle speed ONLY. (the natural flow of fuel, not pressurized).

Good ridence to the cheating kraut - great driver, but his attitude sucked. Now if only they could surgically alter Kimi's personality, so that he actually had one!
