View Full Version : EA introduces ingame consumables
While I am open to a free market and the argument that none is obliged to buy this content is still valid, the Xbox 360 image has been tarnished as of lately by some of the DLC which appeared on the marketplace.
But there's something worse. Even if the idea of buying in-game money with MS points (therefore real money !) is so stupid, I think EA will still find a few thousands suckers buying this trash. As a result, EA will earn a few more thousands dollars for free and they will feel justified to pursue this market strategy.
That's why Microsoft should enforce some regulations or guidelines. Not only the Xbox 360 image will be tarnished but also cost conscious customers will be hurt because they will find themselves purchasing castrated games, just because a few suckers decided to fall for EA market scams.

This sucks! :thumbdwn: I don't care if I don't have to buy it, but when idiots out there buy this **** every other game developer will follow suit. Argh the whole idea of ms points is just stupid to begin with. Why just not use real us dollars instead? And now sony is going the exact same way, which sucks bigtime.

This trend might get worse.
Consider a scenario where you don't actually get full use of a game title unless you fork out extra cash along the way. Almost as if all full releases were demo's.
I'm all for expansions and added content, like the GRAW Chapter 2... I thought that was fair and reasonable, but I can see this getting out of hand soon.
As for MS saying anything, just aslong as they get a cut for hosting it over live, they won't care one bit and why should they.
I can only imagine a game like Chromehounds where you have to pay real money for a new mech when you blow up your old one.
It's going to be a very frightening era of gaming.

I am terrified. What a frightening new era. I might have to pay $20 a year to buy extra stuff. I have no idea what to do.

This whole ordeal with the 360's Marketplace is really starting leave a bad impression on me. I loved the idea at first but I thought they would take it a step further and release whole new levels and even expand on some games for single player but thats not whats being done but instead there nickle and diming us for little stuff like a extra weapon or a team jersey that should already be in the game and couple that with the fact we are now paying $59.99. Live is one of the greatest things about the 360 but lately I find I dont even bother navigating it unless I hear a new demo is out. I really hope Sony and Nintendo goes about there online service in a better fashion and have have a more strict policy.

You started the personal attacks by calling me a smartass. Hypocrite. Keep throwing stones from your glass house.

Funny how rich people always belittle others that have valid complaints about costs.

That's all well and good, but once every single game comes out as a near enough demo and people stop buying into it, development slackens and there's less interest.... we're see who's bitching then when their shares plummet.

I'm not rich, I'm middle class. Thanks though.
Everytime one of these threads comes up I try to explain to people that they need to start looking at the bigger picture.
At the moment it's just a few MS points here and there for ridiculous things such as the infamous TW07 cheat codes (things that used to be and SHOULD be free) but by the way the situation is evolving it's going to be more than just that.. other developers will catch on to the idea.
The gamers will be milked for content that used to come with the game (tutorials, cheats...) and publishers will continue to follow this direction to see just how far they can go. Developers will start to dumb down their games more and more on purpose just so they can go and release content for a ridiculous price that didn't really cost them anything to create since it should have been in the game from the start.
Gamers (even cost conscious people) will find themselves with half assed games and will face the choice of either paying ridiculous prices for having a complete game or playing it as it comes with all the limitations of having some content removed.

We've been paying for half assed games for years.

This I agree with, however we shouldn't over react...yet. Right now, it's merely cheats. I have no problem with people having to pay to get ahead in a game. However, when we're talking about content that should have been in the game in the first place, such as the nine other courses in TW '07, then that's where I have a problem.
Fair, but the sooner we send a clear message to the industry, the less likely we will see ingame content cut out from highly anticipated titles in a next future.
