Howto, help: Quadro NVS with Solaris 10?

Hi all,

Being a newbie to the Solaris scene, I want to install Solaris 10 on the following hardware (nothing new or fancy - it was a DELL system):

Intel P4 3.0GHz HT, 800Mhz FSB
4 GB RAM
Quadro NVS video device

Now, I start the Solaris 10 Disc 1 installation via the boot menu and when the installation gets to the "window configuration" stage (step 3) the video device is detected as "unknown". Is this right?

Anyway, if I continue the installation, it is via a simple text based interface (and not a nice GUI dialog mode like I have experienced in the past). After the installation process is complete the X11 window system fails to start and only the command line is available! I DL'd and installed the http://www.nvidia.com/object/solaris_display_1.0-8776.html driver and followed the instructions to no avail.

How can I get Solaris 10 into a GUI mode (eg X11) using the Quadro NVS?

Help or suggestions? What further infomation do you require?

If it helps, I did the following

# sh NVIDIA-Solaris-x86-1.0-8776.run

but *NO* /etc/X11/xorg.conf.nvidia files is produced like the README says
and *NO* /usr/X11/lib/X11/getconfig/nvda.cfg file was installed like the README says

It should be so easy, what gives?

Reviewing over your installation information, it looks like you are not configured yet to use xorg. Try running sys-unconfig, then reboot. This will bring the Solaris install to a state where you can define the graphics. During the section for graphics, choose xorg and not xsun. Then choose a graphics card close to the graphics card you have installed. After this process is complete, then install the Nvidia driver.
