An update to the PSP system software was made available on October 26, 2006. If you update your PSP system, the system software will be version 2.82. This version adds many features.
Network

You can now download video and image content under [RSS Channel].
You can now register devices via a wireless LAN access point under [LocationFree™ Player].

Music
You can now play AAC files with the .3gp file extension.

Settings
[Automatic] has been added as an option under [Network Settings] > [Infrastructure Mode].

Other
Support for the playback of content stored in [MUSIC], [PICTURE] and [VIDEO] folders at the root level of Memory Stick Duo™ media has been added.
Included in 2.81 and 2.82: Patches have been added to address security vulnerabilities in the system software.

Nice! They also are releasing an exclusive level for locoroco with a halloween theme!

k maybe it will not run 2.8 yet but soon :p
Im running 2.72 firmware and still keeping the 1.5 original firmware intact :D

I'm using 1.5 w/ devhook as well, but doesnt do much good when 3.0 comes out and I want to play ps1 games on the psp. :(

Hopefully I can find a psp on ebay for under 100 with maybe a cracked/scratched screen (not cracked lcd itself), I wouldnt mind changing the faceplate with one from decalgirl or something.

3.00 will be out before Nov 17th to add PS3 support. I'd have to double check, but I believe it will come loaded on the HDD to make things a bit easier for users.

How can anyone choose a firmware over all the homebrew stuff thats available thats just beyond me, if it werent for that i would never buy a psp.

Because I like playing games that you can't with 1.5 PSPs, even the cracked ones... Rachet and Clank for one. ;)
