I hardly ever watch the Grammys and last nite was no different but when I read the news of the winner of album of the year i was shocked. Norah Jones? Come on, she puts together a so so album with recycled material and gets an award cuz she is new. Pathetic! Bruce Springsteen released a awesome album with substance and passion, not to mention a fresh sound from a main stay in the rock industry. It is concrete proof that we do need to bomb Iraq. My fellow forum trolls I think the way is clear and the cause is just. Join with me in this crusade to rid the world of Saddam! :D :p ;)

It is kinda of funny how these people get so much and they dont even write their own material?

:(

i agree. there should be a grammy for song writers so that people would know who really made their favourite songs they listen to evryday.

So then you agree with my position that Bruce should have won since he wrote all his own songs and that we should bomb Iraq. :D

This position really bothers me, since what sells music in numbers is how its produced not just the writing. Poetry is one thing but a song that sounds good is another. Artists who write and produce everything they do are so rare its shocking because collaboration and joined efforts usually make for better music irrespective of who writes it.

Im not advocating cheese pop as a form of music but what i am saying is far too much emphasis is put on the ability to write music.

True but those who write and produce everything are, which if they did they would be completing the creative process something fans seem to yearn

Nora is a cutie, don't get me wrong, but the Grammy Awards are nothing more than a big joke. It's just a gala where has-beens-in-tuxedos slap the asses of the younger has-beens-in-tuxedos (because if they don't, the older has-beens will never have a hit single on Billboard or any airplay).

Someone asked in another forum, "Out of the Grammy Nominations, who do you want to win Album Of The Year" and my reply was simple - none of the above. Why? Because Rush's "Vapor Trails" wasn't among the nominees. To take a break for 6-7 years and comeback with an album of that magnatude proves that the bigwigs in the industry are tone-deaf. They automatically pick one of the few "flavors of the month" because they don't want to create more work for themselves by recognizing an artist that has since lavished in the void of obscurity that THEY - the industry - created in the first place.

We need Simon from "American Idol" on the Grammy judging panel.

Period. :p

To me if someone is trying to convey a feeling or emotion in a song and reach out to a listener, it should be their own idea. I feel cheated if that feeling wasn't originally conceived by the person that is trying to get it across. That's like someone taking a Picasso and calling it their own. It sucks.
