My last upgrade was back in 2004. I was wondering if these components would be a solid upgrade, or should I just get a S754 PCI-X 16 mobo and slap in a 8800 GTS? Is my overclocked S754 Clawhammer still powerful enough? Bad thing about this is that I need more memory for Company of Heroes and BF 2142. My 3 sticks of 256 would have to be chucked for GB sticks of DDR. I would hate to spend anymore on DDR. (Better to invest in DDR2 for a C2D board?)

Possible new system:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6400

GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3

Crucial Technology 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit

8800 GTS

That is definitley a MAJOR improvment over your current system. I say go for it although check into the ASUS extreme board. It's one of the stickyed threads in this forum. :)

Those choices you made are pretty much top of the line hardware. That upgrade should last you a long time.
