Well i've been reading around on some of the reviews....and it looks like the 8800 has either caught up or surpassed ATI's IQ.

what do you guys think? IQ no longer an issue with Nvidia?

Not only no issue, it's the new standard, and ATI has alot of catching up to do, they did IMO the impossible, beating ATI's IQ. (nana2)

So the infamous shimmering is gone? That would be sweet.

Appears to be true! I am one of those people that knows what shimmering means and I've always thought it was annoying. Even if we were not getting DX10 soon, this card would still be awesome for the AF and AA improvements alone. Guys, just wait until we see DX10 on these cards and we can smile once more and be reassured our hard earned money was well spent. This thing is fast enough that I'm not concerned about a revision (8850? or 8900?) coming out in the spring. I only hope we see a bunch of beta drivers arrive over the next few months to smooth out the card even more.

Yep nVidia has tighter AF in HQ mode. Heck nVidia's default AF is almost as tight as AMD HQ AF. People should keep this in mind when comparing 8 series performance with 7 series performance. The 8 series does way more work with filtering active.

See the AF patterns here:

Also the new AA modes. Look into them. nVidia is currently the IQ and performance king.

Anyone wonder what the 8 Series would perform with the 7 Series Filtering? hehehe

I'm one of those too. I mainly play racing games (F1C, GTR2 & GTL) and the image quality on my 6800GT is just awful. The white lines on the road shimmer and flicker and the anti-aliasing is plain sh*t. Hopefully this is cured with this generation of cards.

If anyone sees a review where GTR2 is benched please post a link.
And if anyone with bad experience in the games mentioned above has bought the 8800, can you give some impressions of the IQ please?

Thanks for the links! Nice to see AMD's IQ reign has finally been beat by nVidia.

Exactly. People seem to forget that when they say the 8800 series is "only" twice as fast as the 7900/X1** series. :p

You get more than uber speed with G80. :afro:

I get the feeling that with the improvements to AA and AF many of us are going to be breaking out some older games just to experience it "the way it was meant to be played".

they didnt really do the imposible here...since they had better IQ then ati with thier geforce 2-3-4 series, but still,i like the new standard they have set, specialy with AF without loosing much in FPS.

didnt nvidia do some kind of addition of the 6xxx cards with the 7xxx AA in a driver update before?

do you think I could have the new AF running on my 7900 with a driver update?

I dont think so .. the GF8 architecture is quite different from the GF7 series to use the new AF/AA modes.

If anything , it'll be later. remember nVIDIA need to sell the GF8.
just like how TAA was enabled later in the GF6 series.

Absolutely. UT2K4, Source games, LOTR:BFME2, MoH:PA, etc. will probably all get a good replay once I get a new rig together.
