So, I have 700 or so burning a hole in my pocket. I am leaning toward the 8800GTX as I think it is a generational leap beyond the PS3 and XBox 360, which I already have. What would you fellows do?

8800 all the way! (nana2)

If you have a 360 then trust me. All of the good video games are coming out for 360 so there is no need for both a 360 and a ps3.

On the other hand an 8800 will allow you to play the new pc games much better, which are not coming out for the ps3 of 360.

Zomg! I didn't know Resistance, Motor Storm, Heavenly Sword, Virtua Fighter 5, MGS4, DMC4, FF13 and FF13: Versus are coming to Xbox360?

To answer the OP's question, it's really a matter of personal preference. If there are launch games that interest you with PS3 than get one, if not, then I'd go with G80. Either way you can't go wrong.

You get a PS3, it will keep you occupied until G80's successor comes out.

You get G80, you will be occupied until you can save up for a PS3 again.

PS3 might have better quality/run faster/smoother games..but you already have a xbox360..if ure not sure i think maybe you should wait and get more feedback from ps3 owners.

I would get the PS3.... then when you get bored of it you can sell it and get a 8800GTX and it will most likely be cheaper by then. Why buy a card the card when their isn't a DX10 game out for it now.

You may as well get the video card since trying to get a PS3 this close to launch at MSRP would be next to impossible.

You still don't understand that what your saying is your OPINION.

How do you know he doesn't like the games I listed. Not to mention PS3 has a ton more games coming out than that small list.

You still won't get it though, shoe fanboy......shoe.

8800 GTX, newer games will have better graphix then PS3, and PS3's could be bad at first like the 360 was when it first came out, so I would wait

Thanks guys. I heard that the PS3 is based off of the G71 tech. If so, can it even attempt to portray as a true DX10 vid card can. It sounds like the 8800GTX is much more of a beast than even the fanbois at Rage3D want to admit. 128 unified pipes...friggin incredible. I like FPS's so I guess the 8800GTX gets my money for now. If the PS3 has some kick ass games besides Resistance, which looks sweet, I may pick one up later when the mark-up is not 100% on EBay.

The PS3 is based on a higly modified G70 actully, it renders in Sony custom hardware API.

PS3 will last longer than an 8800GTX, there are always new games out for the PS3 that arnt out for the PC, GTA games being some that get a year on PS first. So it depends, but a PS3 will last your 3-4 years, an 8800GTX 1 yr tops.

the ps3 will have top tier games for it in about a year.

year 0 games for new consoles are never as good as year 1.

Back when Sony announced the specifications of the PlayStation 3, everyone asked if it meant the end of PC gaming. After all Cell looked very strong and NVIDIA's RSX GPU had tremendous power. We asked NVIDIA how long it would take until we saw a GPU faster than the RSX. Their answer: by the time the PS3 ships. So congratulations to NVIDIA for making the PS3 obsolete before it ever shipped, as G80 is truly a beast.

Lol. To be honest there are some games you get on consoles that are classic. It would be a shame to miss out on both to be honest.
