...does it work?

I read it somewhere that SLI only works with 2 16x slots. IS it only for SLI, or, even with single card I need a 16x slot?

It should work on x8 PCI-E ... (the x16 was required for the GX2 which is actually 2 cards in one).

It works (Ask OWA) but it appears bottlenecked.

Why would it be bottlenecked? PCI-E 8x still provides plenty of bandwidth and with heaps of VRAM on the card, it's not like the card uses the PCI-E bandwidth a lot once the textures have been uploaded to the VRAM.

I would like to hear from anyone using the 8800 GTZ on a PCI-E 8x limited motherboard. I'm considering getting one (not SLI, just the one card) but my motherboard's PCI-E 16x slot is wired for 8x operation only, electrically. Will the card work? Please reply if you've used this configuration.

My motherboard's specs are here:

It works. Not sure of the limitation, I am unsure if the 8800's would take advantage of the extra bandwidth, previous cards did not.

Ekotan may have a point when it comes to real world performance, but technically there is a bottleneck. For clarification, we would need to bench identical SLI systms except one would have, for example, an Asus A8N-SLI and the other would have an Asus A8N32-SLI board. That would answer this.

I am wondering the same thing. I have only seen one Nforce 4 SLI x16 mb (eVGA)that would allow me to use 2 pci cards if you have two 8800's installed. I need the pci slots for my audigy and physics card.

Geesh......all you jealous people! I bet you wish you wasted $300.00 :)

I know I'm a sucker- only reason I'm holding onto the card is UT2007.
