View Full Version : 8800gts temps

its cooled off the longer I've used it.
OC'd to 620/1800 it no longer goes higher than 75*, and in most games sits at 65*.

when i first fired it up, it hit 85* at stock in games.

heat sink compound for sure had to settle in.

runs great, shame the memory wont go higher.

core might go higher but I'm a liiiitle scared to keep pushing it.

Which brand do you have?

I'm seing the same thing with my GTS. At 600/900 it stays at 75C now, and thats in FEAR, the GPU melter. :p

I'm so damn happy with G80 so far. Very fast, stable and produces superb IQ. There, you can use that in an ad. :D

To be honest, 65 it's the maximum I can remember my GTS gone up to
But I have not monitored too much temps
Busy Replaying FarCry with all the pretty lights

Temps continued to drop, idles in the low 50's barely breaks 60 when i game.

first video card I've owned that had a burn in period.

I'm guessing that the heat sink had a big ass heat transfer compound/pad that had to melt and set in.

otherwise I'm at a loss to explain a 20* drop in temps while gaming.

Still waiting for the card to hit 60C under load *shrugs* People seeing 85C load temps, while not having anything to worry about....I dunno what the deal is (although those temps coincide with multiple review sites).

I guess I am one of those unlucky... non overlocked 8800GTS, GPU at 80-85 running WoW (not exactly the most hardcore game) !!! I can manage to get it cooler if I use RivaTuner but that's a pain... how come nVidia driver does not accelerate fan yet at 80C ?? still stuck at 60% fan speed which in fact feel like 30% (barely any air flow at back).

Very disappointed so far by the performance of the card....

I'm experiencing up to 79C in games like Dark Messiah.
However, thats with a very silent air-cooled setup, I guess 10C could be saved by adding two or three more case fans.
The card is running at stock clocks.

At 625/925 the highest mine goes is 63c. But I took off the plastic cover and slapped a case fan on the heat sink. I find it cools much better that way.

Yes high temps... XFX 8800 GTS - 630 1850, i have mine runing at 85 at max load. might take the plastic off like you did and put a fan on it to try and drop that temp.

My GTS, overclocked to 625/1950, using the stock cooling parameters, will hit 83c-85c under a real load like Far Cry with high levels of AF and AA. CoD2 is about the same, and games like flight simulator X never break 65c because it is so cpu limited.

But I digress, you can use Rivatuner to automatically vary fan speed at varying temp levels. I set mine to run at 60% up to 70c, then it jumps the fan to 70%, at 75c it jumps the fan speed to 75%, at 80c it runs the fan at 80%, and has not gotten over that yet in any game. Anything beyond 85c and I set it to run at 100%....just for safety. At 80% the fan is no louder than at stock 60% and it cools WAY better.

If I set my fan speed to 100%, my card never breaks 75c. I have a fairly warm room and live in a warm climate (south texas).
