NV30 & R350 (9800 pro 128mb .15 ddr1 400/500)
NV35 & R350 revamp (9900 pro 256mb .13 ddr2 500/600)
NV40 & R400 ("who knows" 256(maybe a 516 version) .23 ddr3 600\800)
The battle to watch will be NV40 against R400, if ATI had throw R400 against NV35 it wont have what it take to compete with NV400 but now they will go head to head with enough time on both camps. No excuses can be made for poor performance. LETS GET READY TO RUMBLEEEE!!!!

LOL Mufu, it must be using some of those "special" memory modules I've heard about.
512? Not likely. We still haven't seen 256 MB's of RAM on desktop vga cards.
128 has been around for quite some time now, and I dont think anyone will jump over 256 and go right into 512 :)
256MB is for real soon, Volt.
Using 512MB of cheap RAM, instead of 256MB of expensive RAM, would cost exactly the same.
So, maybe ATI took another approach: use a lot of slower memory. You could thus put a lot more compression levels, in order to be sure you aren't wasting any memory bandwidth in the main loop.
It would make sense, IMO. But it would also be a rather strange design!

I'm not neglecting there won't be a 256 version. We just haven't seen one up to day.
Wouldn't 512 chips be a bit big? That would look funky.

Yeah, i allwasy thought with every new release they would duble it, I thought they would stop at 512mb for a long time, but they stoped at 128, kinda werid if u ask me. Maybe its because of the faster AGP buses they didnt have to up it?
na, it is that it would take a hell of a lot of effort to pump out all the art to fill more than 128mb in one map.

Fair enough, i guess unless developers start demanding more video memory they wont bother to add more.

It'll useful for higher levels of FSAA too, remember.

"Despite the looming price war, AMI Technologies, ATI’s agent in Taiwan, believed that the sharp decline in product ASP (average selling price) seen in 2002 may not occur again this year, as the company is ready to launch a range of new chips. In addition to its Radeon 9800 (R350), Radeon 9600 (RV350) and Radeon 9200 (RV280) series, ATI is also planning to introduce its new-generation R400 in the second half."

Except this bit...
Nvidia, following the launch of its GeForce FX 5800 (NV30), GeForce FX 5600 (NV31) and GeForce FX 5200 (NV34), has also started pushing its NV35 into the production process. Samples of the chips are expected to be released in the middle of the second quarter
...sounds bang on to me. Assuming they are talking about prod qualified/review samples, of course.
