I didn't find any benchmark from reviewers using X2 CPU, everybody is using Core Duo now. I did upgrade my computer this week to Core Duo so here are some results. Might help those with X2 decide if upgrading to Core Duo is a good idea :) I must point out, No AA and x8 AF

FEAR 1680x150 X2 4800@2.7 MIN 49 AVERAGE 103 MAX 218 vs CORE DUO 2.4@2.9 MIN 75 AVERAGE 142 MAX 305

Company of Heroes 1680x1050 MIN 36 AVERAGE 62 MAX 201 vs CORE DUO MIN 44 AVERAGE 103 MAX 269

3dmark06 went from 9374 to 10891

At first I was disappointed with 3dmark06 results but games confirm me that upgrading was a really good move.

since your using a 6600 conroe you should be able to OC to 3.6Ghz with no problem as long as you have good ram.

I'm going from an X2-4800 to a Q6600. Coupled with the eVGA N68 mobo and BFG 8800GTX that should be delivered tomorrow, I'm stoked about what my games will be playing like.

Thats a pretty big jump..Fear MIN for example...

Fear seems to be one of the few games that seem to gain huge advantage from new hardware...and its a game that looks great

I have to stop reading this stuff... such amazing performance...

I want a core 2 overclocked to 3.6Ghz... and maybe a second 8800GTX since SLI seems to FINALLY be worth the hassle.

I don't believe that there is so big difference...
Crank up AA to 4x, AF to 16x and I predict that performance difference will be minimal between these cpues.

I have been downloading lots of oblivion plugins lately and I found a few that supposedly give a rather large increase in performance. One decreases the number of polygons on the grass "pieces", another actually scales down the detail of many models in the game without any significant visual impact. This should help a ton with the CPU limitations.

I cant wait to try it out on my 8800GTX.

One more day!!

Right, run those same benchmarks with 8xAA or 16xAA and 16AF and see what happens then. The gap will shrink. I'm not knocking the Core2, because I'll be going there next year myself, but I agree with Mathas.

You got a point, I didn't used AA and only x8AF.

I never used AA for shooter, I don't see the use, maybe I'm old school but for me high framerate is priority number one in shooters.

Beside since most people play in 1280x1204, I'm pretty sure the gap would be the same. I cannot test my X2 again since it's gone.

but FEAR with x4AA and x16AF MIN 48 AVERAGE 87 MAX 215 (Core duo)

It's sad that your X2'd gone...

That is almost exactly what I get with my 4800X2 right now with those settings. MIN 47, Average 85, MAX 205.

In what resolution?

Do the E6700's o/c as well as the 6600's?

Yeah, same here. After screwing up my motherboard I priced out a conroe upgrade but decided I wanted to wait a little while. Results like these definitely make it tempting to upgrade sooner rather than later though.

Can you test at 1600x1200 and 1920x1200?

I really wonder when people gonna realize that gaming @1600x1200 and beyond with lots of AA/AF (and HDR) isn't CPU bounded.

Totally depends on the game. Some games are still CPU bound at those settings and dual 8800GTX's.

HAHA I would hope so.
I actually decided to return my second GTX, primarily for afford-ability reasons, but also due to the fact that one seems to be plenty for 16x12 4xAA, which is my preferred setting.

Some guy over at HardForums got 4000 points more than me in 3dmakr05 just because he has a core2 6600 oc to 3.7 ghz... but we both have exacly the same card.

So, i 3dmark really a 3dmark...or is it a CPU mark. :D

Well, I for one took the plunge on the 8800GTX, my first top of the line product btw, and running it with a 3800X2 @ 2.5. All I can say is WOW! BF2 at 16x12 16xAA and 16xAF with all opts off and TSAA on and vsync on(yea). Pegged at 60fps the entire game. No slow downs.

This is not to knock the C2D owners, will upgrade in the near future, This is to give the older cpu owners some info. If you have the cash get the gtx if not get the gts. They are both well worth it.

Will run FEAR at the before mentioned settings as soon as I restore my Steam backup.

Looking for your reply:) Do a test with 4xAA/16xAF at for example 1600x1200/1920x1200 resolutions. Don't forget to mention min fps in your upcoming reply;)
