I should be recieving my 8800gts today or tomorrow.

I've never owned a NVDA card before and currently have a x800gto in my system.

I've read alot of info on the different forums ... but I just want to make sure I set the card up right (to have the full experience of my first NVDA card).

The steps I should do are:

1. Uninstall the ATItool
2. Removal ati drivers and use the ati cleaning tool
-switch cards-
3. Either install the drivers off the CD or install the 97.02 drivers (which ones?)
4. Install ATItool 25 beta 16 (supposedly this can be used to OC the card).

I read about some issues with not installing the drivers from the CD; read that someone had really bad 2d visuals).

So my main question is do I install the drivers off the CD and or do I install the 97.02 drivers and any other suggestions?

thanks

I'd go with the 97.02s and ntune 5.05. Actually, since you're use to ATItool, I think you can use that to overclock the card.

Word on the neutral, ie non-fanboi sites, is that ATItool is actually better than ntune for overclocking the 8800s, fewer problems less bugs etc. And don't ask me where I saw that, I've spent the last two days trawling the web for info on the 8800s before I buy one :D

Well got my card today ... have my 8800gts set at 620/963 atm

only issue I have is that atitool doesnt set the memory to default under 2d mode (meaning I want to have minimal settings when I'm in 2d mode - ie crusing the net etc ...) - but it seems to automatically set the memory to the oc mode ie 963.

my temps are also a bit high also - not sure about other people ie 64 idle/90 under stress testing.

Also I must be really cpu limited not seeing much gains over my c3dx800
running a 3200+(stock atm)

Any of these apps remember the OC on a reboot?

What about OCing in the drivers??

Well I assume atitool saves the OC and boots it up ...
I havnt tested it yet thou; but it always did with my x800gto.

On my laptop atm so cant test it but tomorrow Ill check to make sure ...

Just want to find a way to set the memory lower during 2d mode and in atitool there doesnt seem to be any fan functions (ie cant change fan settings)

only the core clock is changed between 2d and 3d modes

the memory clock is the same in both 2d and 3d.
