Everyone plays Half Life 2, quake 4, Oblivion, etc. We all know they are good games, but what are the unknown jewels that we may be missing? What are some games you know of that are very fun to play, but maybe not that popular? Screenshots would be helpful as well

WarRock http://www.warrock.net Its kind of like the Battlefield series, except better. The graphics aren't as good, but everything else the game shines it. It has the best gameplay of any other FPS I have ever played. On top of that it is free.

Sacrifice This is an old 3d strategy game made by Shiny Entertainment. Probably one of the best, most original games of all time. The art direction in the game is absolutely beautiful. VERY colorful. It is a fairly old game so the graphics aren't nearly good as current titles, but it holds its own. Absolutely a MUST PLAY for anyone.

I will have screenshots posted from both of these games up later on.

wow, thanks for the link...might have to try that out...

I would say the NOLF series is a rather underappreciated series...I usually don't try that many games that are too far below the radar...

.

Can you give any details as to why it has good gameplay? Are there any features that it has over bf2?

I still play the CHAOS mod for Quake2 from time to time.
It's an old favorite that I just seem to keep coming back to.

Oh man, I loved Sacrifice. System Shock 2, Planescape: Torment and Fallout rank high too. I always believed that the true measure of an RPG would be if they allowed you to define your own victory conditions. And along came Fallout 2, and once I got to New Reno, the city of sin seduced me, and after I'd become boxing champion, porn star, casino lord and made more money than I knew what to do with gambling, I quit playing because as far as I was concerned, screw my village, I'd won :p Plus the world of Fallout had so much character, and people reacted to you so well based on your various titles, it made these accomplishments so satisfying. Not like Morrowind or Oblivion where yeah, you get to be master of the fighters guild...but nobody really cares except for a few fighters guild people.

I always liked Blood 2 also for some reason. I know that by most measures the game sucked, but I just had a soft spot for it.

agreed. One of the best strategy games I've ever played, and I'm shocked it didn't become more popular.

American McGee's Alice
Medi Evil 2 (really old PS1 game)
Savage - I love the way that they mix melee and ranged weapons and make them both useful. Seems like most of the popular games are just shooting, with a knife or something thrown in for the humiliation kill.:) Hopefully it's getting really close to the beta of Savage 2, although they're being pretty tight-lipped about it since they missed their original date over the summer. This is my current addiction and the reason I'm so pissed off about the lousy ping of my internet. BTW it's free now - you can download it right from their website.

And dare I say it - StepMania. I don't know if it qualifies since DDR is pretty popular, but it's definitely an alternative type of game.

Same here. 95% of people I know that have played it say they loved it. Sad they will never make another :(

Mobile Forces is a lot of fun. :)

Its cheesy as hell, but its great fun just throwing a bunch of bots into a game of "trailer" and having a blast. I don't think there are many (if any) multiplayer servers around any more, but the offline play is fun enough that it doesn't really matter. Also, it uses a lot of the death sounds from the old command and conquer games, so thats funny as hell. :p

I would say so. For something that's freeware, it's really polished. I have to get some A/V cables for my laptop so I can hook up my metal dance pad to my laptop. Playing the same games over and over on my Xbox gets a bit boring, and DDR Ultramix 4 isn't that great.

I don't know how "non-popular" they are ;) but I'm a big fan of Dungeon Siege, Dungeon SeigeII and their expansions.

It's funny because I just randomly picked up Planescape: Torment one day in a combo pack with another game called Soulbringer (that I never ended up playing) with no idea how good it was. I actually played through a good chunk of that game before I started getting impatient and just followed a walkthrough. That's impressive for me because usually I don't have the attention span for RPG's.:)

Incidentally I still want to go back and find out what happens if you give the Modron cube to the big Golem thing. Apparently it's a really evil thing to do.

Oh, and my wireless router's hostname is NamelessOne and the SSID is Torment because of this game. In case you're into useless trivia.;)
