Norton Corprate Edition Or AVG

I use the frree version of AVG 7.5 on my notebook but i got a free copy of NAV Corprate Edition latest version.

What will do a better job with viresus and resources?

I hear people like AVG cuz its free but i heard IT likes NAV Corprate alot too.

It all depends on what you like to do with your AV program I guess. My cousin had Norton Corpo on his machine since they were forced through his school. (Dorm pc) The problem is that depending upon how it is set up, you can't do a single thing with it. I assume you installing it, so you should at least be able to set what you want for options, so it probably won't be as bad.

I'm really indifferent, I'd suggest you try em both and see which one you like better. Norton will probably catch more things IMO, but it might use more resources, or be more of a nusance with other programs.

I used both and liked both but for a notebook on the go i think NAV would be good for now.

Actually Kaspersky Anti-Virus, and NOD32 are both superior solutions.

Kaspersky > NOD32 > Norton Corporate > AVG > AVG Free Edition > Consumer Crap in Stores

pff. I am not really a fan of kaspersky.. It may do good scanning but it's slow. It slows down your PC considerably. Although it doesn't dethrone Norton Internet Security 2006 in worse performance.

I am currently running CA Inoculate 7.. Small/lightweight and nearly no impact (if at all) on performance. And a lifetime (as it looks like) amount of definition updates and not overpriced.

Well considering the free version of AVG will be discontinued after the end of this year, either go with Norton or switch to ClamWin.

Slows down your PC considerably? You are the only one that has mentioned that. I've been running it 24/7 and my PC's never felt slow.

Ummm, no it's not....support for AVG version 7.1 and older is being discontinued on Jan 7, 2007, but the new version (7.5) will continue....not sure where you heard this...

I don't care for AVG anymore cuz its very bad with resources. IT makes my system boot up real slow and eats up memory. I used NAV corprate but it blue screens on me when windows starts up.

I actually second the bad resources thing.. It is sitting idle in my little thing in the taskbar by the clock and using 30mb's.

I love AVG and have been using it for years with zero issues ever. At work they have Norton...god I hate Symantec crap. It's using 70mb right now. It also takes up to 40% cpu time when it's running "in the background."

:wtf: Mine is using like....less than 4MB

There are 4 processes:

avgamsvr.exe - 604K
avgcc.exe - 672K
avgemc.exe - 1920K
avgupsvc.exe - 696K

Unless I'm missing a big one....Maybe yours is running a scan?

Ah yes, I just started a scan and it creates a new process which uses ~30MB. But that makes sense....I would expect it to use more resources when scanning...

I use Symantec Corp just because its the program required to be onto our laptops in order to be connected to our network. Its alright, but it does suck up a few resources.

AVG is excellent, I'd recommend it in a heartbeat.

Kaspersky give me bad memories though, its a bit troublesome to install sometimes and it conflicts with Vista in a few places.

Votes in favor of AVG here. I used AVG and i do like it but when i was using im my Toshiba notebook that has a 2.4 Pentium M 768 ram, it took for ever to reach the desktop on boot. I removed it and loaded Norton Corprate on it and it booted up just fine.
