I just had a look at the completed auctions for the PS3. Sure, I was expecting $2000-3000... but not this...

WTF????

I'm betting the last two bids are going to be pulled back. That is just insane!

I did watch one go for $3600 and was like damn, but that is just nuts!

I really doubt they are going to pay for that.

This is the reason ebay should stop all PS3 sellers.

maybe the winning bidder thought it was 1500, not 15000 lol.

I also saw a Buy It Now that went for 3000, and some auctions that are bidding higher. Some of them are obviously going to be retracted, but there are some that may go through and that's just nuts.

Sony (in fact all console makers in general) should just make launch day an official Ebay Auction Launch. That would at least let them not have to lose money per machine. I mean going by the prices on ebay they would have made a profit on each machine instead of a loss. Then set up a store launch where they actually have a MSRP and then guarantee every preorder to be available.

I want to think it is some sort of PR stunt for people to see...I don't know.

Seriously, everyone who got one put it on ebay anyway.

Maybe disgrunted gamers who couldn't get a console at launch are inflating the price with fake bids? It seems too high to be true...

That was my first thought. I can't see from here, but I think the winning bidder only had 6 feedback. It's probably a similar story with the other very high-bid winners. There's one way to find out though... watch the feedback for the buyer/seller over the next few days.

Thats what I've been thinking. Why not, it generates even more hype that ends up on the evening news. Cheaper then running commercials and has a better impact.
