Hey Nerds, I decided to make this my first post after reading to much crap from people who I will leave nameless. This is about the R700 chip that ATi will release. Let me say that I am waiting for this video card for my next computer build. So... if god is willing, I hopefully will be getting this some time this summer.
Ok, now for the fun part. Lets chat about the G80 chip for a second. My first statement will be that this chip is great, for a DX10. Now lets talk about benchmarks. I will repost when I get home and re-find where I got my benchmarks from. The ATi X1950xtx has better fps then the all powerful 8800GTX. Its as simple as that. And I am not talking like 3-5 fps I am saying about 30-50 faster. So when whats his face who wants to be an IT department said that ATi has bad quality products. He should do some research before he talks about anything. Ok.. that being said, When we look at the actual fps both the 8800GTX and the X1950xtx are way above what we can see. We cant see faster then 60 fps. Since both of these cards are well over 100 fps, it won't matter when we are shooting up our friends, or playing wow(which I hate that game with a passion).
Now about the topic. The R700! I can not wait for this card. Multi GPU, ATi has stated that they are going after the physics market, whats not to like? With the R700, it will allow this. ATi has even hinted at the R600 capable of physics processing. It is only smarter for ATi (who made the big stink about DX10, Not Nvidia) to do the multi cores. They will be able to save power by shutting down cores when not needed, which also will save on heat. Less heat = better performance. Also it will have at least GDDR4 ram on it. And hate to break it to you guy who has been in computers for more then 8 years (which you should take you floppy out or its drive, your computer has filed rape at least half a dozen times) but that is going to push ATi farther past Nvidia. Even the X1950XTX has GDDR4 RAM on it.
Last piece from me at this time. ATi has great quality products. And when it comes to which video card company is better then another, it depends what your application is. If you want a card that is out-of-the-box ready to go and has limited functionality to manipulating that card, then by all means go for the Nvidia. They will let you change some settings so you can play games with good quality and not have to many problems. But if you want a card that is great out of the box and is easy to plug and play and allows you to tweak the hell out of it then get the ATi. They will allow you to do way more to them and wont fuss at all. But it comes right down to who do you want? Who do you prefer? Nobody can tell you who is better then who. That is for you to decide.
I'm looking over your shoulder, only because I got your back.
