View Full Version : Full Coverage of the PS3 Launch (Surprising news of only 80,000 shipped)
My friend and I spent the morning filming the PS3 launch all over town and finding out all about the shortages and whether anyone was actually playing the PS3. What we found out might surprise you.
Flash!Bang! Episode 6- The Next Generation of the Playstation (http://www.FlashBangShow.com/Episode6.html)
In this episode we find out:
Only 80,000 PS3s Shipped
In our town Wal-Mart only received 6 of them
Most pre-orders are not going to be able to be filled until next year
Not one person we talked to was buying the system to play, but to Ebay
Security was tight at most stores and people were agitated
Only game anyone was buying was Resistance: Fall of Man (To bundle on Ebay)
A whole lot more with our review of the system, coverage of the games, and coverage of the opening from big chains, to small ones, and to boutique shops we cover it on Episode 6.

Not sure how valid most of that is, I can tell you with no hesitation that gamestop preorders will be done within the next two weeks according to an update they recieved today.
Cant speak for other locations but I am fairly sure they will have at least 2 more shipments this year which will easily clear preorders.
The "to bundle with ebay crap' shoots any credibility they were trying for all to hell.
Just more biased wanna be journalist over glorified opinionated blogger crap.

Damn I wish my Walmart received 160 Units. I live in Southwest Florida and have two Super Walmarts within 15 minutes of my house. They both received 8.
I also have a Super Target within 5 minutes of my house and they received like 12. There were 50 people waiting on those 12 units:(
There are like 250,000 people combined living in my city and the adjacent city to me which is Ft. Myers. If I were to take a guess there couldnt have been more than 500 units to go between all these people.
Needless to say I wasnt able to get one. I even took a day off work to try but it was tent city everywhere I went.
Congrats to all the lucky people who did get one though.

We went to every single store that was selling or had planned to sell PS3s and interviewed each person in line. Every single one of them said they were putting it on EBay and about half would consider buying one within the next year. A lot were trying to create packages including cables, extra controllers, and a couple popular games to make their auction stand out from all of the rest. In the two towns where we went there live about 150,000 people.
a friend of mine has a co-worker that was 21st in line and still got a premium at a Walmart on the crap side of town. I think the numbers are a bit higher than 80k, but this is just my opinion.

Talking with some friends of mine around the country on the Internet today it seems shipments varied a lot depending on the city and the store. Some places had a lot at their big general chain stores while others had a lot more at the electronic stores. After hearing from some of them I'm guessing that the quantity is probably closer to 100,000, but that's still far from what many had thought Sony would provide.
