Thank you for posting these drivers. Unfortunately, they don't seem to have improved my WoW performance, and are causing a new problem (that wasn't present with the 97.19's posted earlier this week)

When I get the Login screen for WoW, I get feedback on my speakers. Once I log in, the feedback goes away. But its a rather odd occurance none-the-less. Can anyone help?

Also, does anyone know of a way to add monitor resolutions in Vista? On XP, it was a fairly simple procedure. Here, though...

Is there a way to add 1440x900 widescreen support in the INF, or is this a limitation of the driver itself?

Argh I have a bad feeling that even by January we wont have a fully featured control panel. :thumbdwn:

Could be wrong though.... who knows

1440x900 still doesn't work??

well i can't find anything regarding 1440x900 in 92.91 and 96.89 even though i know they work coz im using them.

so the driver isn't reading the monitors capabilities properly

remove the 'default monitor' driver and install the 'plugin and play' monitor driver.

i have a dual widescreen setup and both monitors are seen as Generic PnP since I first installed vista. still, there is no 1440x900 resolution that I can select with none of the driver versions I've tried (96.85 and the first CPless 97.19). max resolution is always 1280x1024. monitors are Fujitsu-Siemens W19-1 connected to dvi (card is BFG 7900GT OC). i will give these a try tonight and report back here if I have any luck.

Now nVidia is delaying their Vista driver to next week, this week at the earliest. I understand they don't HAVE to release a driver, but since MS Beta Testers got free copies of Vista Ultimate, I think they should crank out a nice driver with 8800 support. I don't care about acceleration (I do, but I'd rather have a working OS), I'd rather be able get the OS up and running instead of having to use a stupid SVGA driver and 1280x1024 res. The G80 drivers for XP DO work, however, BSOD when doing any 3D app (even the screensaver). I really hate XP, and I'd rather not install it, but that's what I'm going to have to do until nVidia releases a driver.

They don't HAVE to release an XP driver but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't.

So control panel or not, has anyone made this to work on the 8800 in Vista with full resolution settings?

I wasn't meaning at all, I was meaning right now. I know they will eventually; but until January 30th, they don't really have any obligation to make a driver for the 8800. My guess would be the 30th of November since that's when businesses can buy it officially (meaning game developers etc...).

I'm going to mirror this with the 4th, 5th, and 6th edited INFs. Links will follow shortly.

As a note, inf's 4 and 5 have identical modified timestamps.

http://server.counter-strike.net/files/97.19x86Fullinf5.rar
http://server.counter-strike.net/files/97.19x86Fullinf6.rar

Each rar file has the respective INF denoted in the name of the rar.

Hey Obsidian,

Havign better luck today in regards to getting the 8800GTX to work without the BSOD? :)

It is my opinion that the driver is giving you BSOD because it was not designed to support GeForce 8. It's like trying to use 91.47 drivers for a GeForce 8800 in Windows XP.

I am doubtful an INF mod will be able to solve it.

But I could be wrong. So good luck anyways :)

Also, mind you, the 6001 build he's refering to, is a Server build, not a desktop build. Build 6000 is the final build for Vista, as that's what's available to MSDN and Tech Beta testers.

No its not, 6001 is post RTM going on SP1 contains fixes held back from RTM, or rather not major bug issues, it contains most of the ultimate extra's as well

And im an employee not a beta tester.

....temporarily fixed the widescreen issue by going back to the 96.33 RC1 drivers, not sure of game performance but i doubt it's very good. If you can't stand running your desktop at non-native res these might help you.

I just used an INF from laptopvideo2 go and the driver installed fine, but I am now getting CRAZY flickering in all games (aka anything that has to run in 3d) any suggestions or just drop back to 96.33?

i currently use 1280x800 on both monitors. i just tested with 3dmark06 pro 1.0.2 and these drivers are flawless compared with 96.85 which displayed rendering errors. here are some results if anyone is interested (at 1280x720)

vista ultimate 32bit with aero and adjusted for best appearance (index 5.6/5.9/5.9/5.8/5.4)

1280x720 / 96.85 (rendering problems)

5185 3dmarks

sm20 2076
sm30 1946
cpu 2523

1280x720 / 97.19 (flawless)

5356 3dmarks

sm20 2076
sm30 2093
cpu 2543

1280x720 / 97.19 without aero and sidebar and adjusted for best performance (windows classic theme)

5411 3dmarks

sm20 2097
sm30 2115
cpu 2567

windows xp pro

1280x720 / 93.71

5587 3dmarks

sm20 2143
sm30 2223
cpu 2579

it doesn't seem much of a difference. i usually keep only classic theme on all of my computers so I'm pretty happy with performace for now. i just can't wait for the next forceware....maybe I should just freeze myself...:D

lord obsidian, i think this is useless trying to make htem work on the 8800

im thinking for the G80's there might be something missing for

..i think nv_softwaredevicesettings_g80 is the part thats messing up
as on the xp builds of 8800 drivers it has different entries to the original nv_softwaredevicesettings..
