This link has been floating around the internet for like a year and a half (or more). I dont think this is ever actually going to come out.

There was some sort of little 3 button gadget made using this same technology and it retailed for over $100.

This keyboard is most likely never going to see the light of day.

I just read that they're taking preorders on them starting in December sometime. :)

EDIT: December 12th.

IF it comes out, I MIGHT think about it. Dependant upon the reivews and such but gotta admit, I'm pretty much stuck with my split key ergo keyboards. Normal ones make my hands hurt after just a couple of minutes.

Ah, I didn't realize they were actually releasing new info.

Hopefully the price is under... $1000 :p

Honestly, I'll be very surprised if the keyboard is both GOOD and priced at under $300.

Somebody over at futuremark also said they knew about this about a year ago also but this has been the first I've seen/heard of it. The part about mapping the keys for each game sounds really impressive though.

exspect to pay 500+ for this keyboard, the key are made of oled displays and are very expensive, the three key prototype went for something like 80$...also oled doesnt seems to have a long life conpared to liquid crystals.

yeah I was drooling over that a year ago or so..
Hasnt come out yet it seems, its a pretty neat idea.
I recall they released something, some tiny thing with a few buttons..
But the optimus was a concept thing, atleast back then, dunno if they´ve gotten anywhere with it..
Perhaps they are holding of for a OLEDs to really take off so they can acctually sell it for a price anyone would buy it for.

This will come out when Bitboyz release the Glaze 3D. Until then im perfectly happy with my clunky keytronic, its uber (though a little loud).

Yeah, I saw this keyboard like...over a year ago. It's a really cool idea, but I don't think it will be practical with it's price. I can't see it going for less than several hundred dollars.

EDIT: Yes, here is where I first saw it. http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=53573 - July 14, 2005

thats cool, but it looks like thise LCD's won't last long, especially since you keep tapping on it, but I like my good ol Logitech G15 keyboard :)

I don't think tapping on the keys will affect the LCD life...I'm sure they'll have a cover on them. You won't actually be tapping the LCD. The life issues are because they are OLEDs which have a shorter life span than your regular LCDs. Oh well, only time will tell. We'll see how it is when it comes out...if it comes out that it.

Looks (http://community.livejournal.com/optimus_project/11850.html) like this keyboard will have to go through some growing pains to live up to the high expectations the manufacturer had set originally.

Oh well. If it will allow me to afford one, I'm fine with it.

If they think that people will eat these up with only black and white keys... they aren't thinking straight. Color will make the price ALMOST worth it... otherwise... meh

ya know what...i think with b&w it will still be cool. i think if they add say a blue back light it might work out just as well.

not the screen itself but the monitor does.

it shouldnt get hot. LCDs (your monitor) uses a pretty decent sized backlight. these little keys will have a small backlight. and if they are indeed OLED's, then they wont even need a backlight.

im sure it wont be too hot.

The external display on a RAZR is OLED and my pants rarely catch fire. :firedevil
