Have you ever been somewhere that just pampers you and makes sure that all of your needs are met? My wife and I from time to time go to really nice hotels just to get this pampering.

The reason I speak of this is pampering is due to fact that ASUS seems to be doing the same thing with their Republic of Gamers Series Motherboards.

I used to make fun of the R.O.G. brand just a few months ago, so some might find it ironic that I have shelled out $400 for this Top of the Line mobo from ASUS. I can see now however, that ASUS is really trying to establish something premium, something extremely nice for Gamers.

The extra nice packaging, the software, extra features, and so many other things make this mothboard worth the extra price IMHO.

CAN YOU TELL THAT I AM IMPRESSED YET. THE FOLLOWING PICTURES DO NOT DO JUSTICE TO THIS MOTHERBOARD OF BEAUTY. :drooling:

Drum roll please........(nana2) :captnkill: (nana2) :captnkill:

Ya know, leaving a $400 motherboard in the children's playroom is just asking for trouble. :)

And Asus did a knockout job with the packaging.

I'll just be a selfish git and ask for whatever CPU and MB load temps you can post. I'm on the brink of buying one of those Freezones to cool the oven under my desk.

I'll have those numbers for you tomorrow. The temps should actually be even better than last time because I will be using Artic Silver 5 as well.

IMO you should just pull the trigger on that cooler. You will not regret it. Trust me.:D

Tiki,

Could you please check if the striker extreme has the crackling squeal pop issue with battlefield 2142 and Call of Duty 2.0.:thumbdwn: If you dont have the full version of BF 2142 you can always try the demo. I hear weird noises and squeals with the Evga 680i and 8800GTX SLI. This issue somehow affects only when using 8800GTX in SLI, if i disable SLI or use other models in SLI it works fine.

The issue is there with any PCI card ( have tried all possible kinds) and also onboard sound in my board.

Thanks
Regards,
Aniv

Dang I wish I could help you out there man, but for the time being I only have 1 8800 GTX. Someday I will have another.:D

Thanks for the prompt reply, I hope your board doesn't suffer from the same issues as other 680i based boards(EVGA/BFG). With 1 card it works fine, with 2 cards and SLI disabled it works fine..enable SLI and hell breaks loose. Seed of chucky farts and snickers through the audio channels. You might want to grab another 8800 GTX from Fry's just to test and make sure the premium board with the premium price is pristine. I am waiting for my local Fry's to stock the board; If i get my hands on a board sooner than you can get a second gfx card, I will let you know.

Board looks awesome btw :D Have fun mate.

Aniv

What I dislike or are "meh" about:
- No POST code LED's. Are they still doing the old school beep codes?
- The heatpipes rising from around the CPU socket look like they might interfere with some of the low profile, wide coolers like the Zalman FS-C77. Those selfsame pipes look like they'd interfere with the 8-pin power cable from a bottom-mounted PSU.

What I like:
- I like how they moved the SATA connectors to the side of the mobo, instead of vertically like the reference 680i boards.
- The overall layout looks very roomy in regards to mobo cable connector proximity
- Love the colors of the DIMM and PCI slots (Go Dodgers!)
- The power and reset buttons on the mobo are nice and big

Questions:
- What's that flat thing mounted above the external SATA and 1394 connector on the input panel? Looks like an LCD?

Thanks for sharing, Tiki! Looks pretty cool...
