Seems like a recent Firmware Update has permently taken more then a handful of Wii's Offline. Saddly this is worse then a system failure by hardware since it affects all Wii's aslong as they download the update... which I believe (might be wrong on this) they automatically do if they are connected to an always on connection.

Update: Looks like this is 100% Official, Nintendo is asking people to send in their consoles if they downloaded this update. No way to reverse it on our end.

Nice that they will replace the system in such a quick matter and lets hope this isn't a widespread issue...

Ouch, that sucks. Probably one of the first things I would have done too. It did say they were looking for a non-replacement solution too, so maybe they'll just be able to push out another update. /wishful thinking:)

Don't think that would work if your system doesn't connect to the service... aka isn't online anymore. I can only see them making a physical update like a CD or Memory Card.

At least Nintendo is being cool about returning your console for a replacement. And it isn't like this destroys the system, it just won't let you connect online. I'm surprised they just don't ship out a Wii firmware disc, rather than take it back to the factory.

I'm going to wait a couple weeks before I connect my Wii to the internet so they can get all the bugs worked out.

Well the average person doesn't even know what firmware is, and they are too stupid (I work at Circuit City, I have seen so much stupidity) to just stick a CD in, and press one button.

Hell 1/3rd of the Computers I sell, I sell along with AntiVirus, and Spyware + we charge the fools $175 do it.

From what I have heard, you literally pop in the CD, start up you wii, and the firmware is updated. Matter of fact, some of the initial 12:00 midnight systems actually shipped with a firmware update CD.

People are still too stupid... Circuit City charges $30 to install a USB mouse for christ sakes, the average person is a moron.

So true... When I worked at EBGames I had people come asking me for Zelda or Mario on the Playstation because they thought Nintendo made it...

So wait...there is a new update that fried out Connect24 on Wii's...or was this the launch day update that was waiting for me when I turned mine on? Cause so far I've been solid, getting messages, mailing Mii's, checked out the Shopping channel.

Edit: Oh, wait, I did get a few errors, but after changing my routers channel to 11 everything cleared up. Wonder if its the same thing.

Oh come on... if this had been the PS3 you would be talking about how stupid Sony is and all that jazz... but Nintendo did it so it is perfectly fine and Nintendo is TEH CULEST!

Ah, I missed that it screws up the connection. That would be an issue.

Wow, I did the update when my Wii first got online, did not get any error message during or after that, I can also go online shop and look at the games haven't bought any yet. Hmmm wonder if this affected early birds that got the console early sunday, I went online around 5:00 pm Eastern time on Sunday. Now I am afraid of hitting the update button in my Wii settings. Does the update to firmware automatically download and update your Wii.
One more question is the News and Forcast channel working or is Nintendo still working on those channel?

Still working on News and Forecast right now.

I think the reason they don't ship out firmware CDs is for hackers/pirates. If they get their hands on the firmware they might do what the X360 ones are able to do today. They'll get it eventually, but why make it easier for them?
