I can't believe noone has posted about this yet. I watched the match on PPV and I have to say it was a very good UFC match. Hughes was definitely not on top of his game that night. George Saint Peirre' was on fire. Everything he did seemed to work right. GSP is by far my favorite UFC fighter, and I'm glad he got the belt. He deserves it more than anyone else in his weight class. I might live in the USA, but when I see GSP fight I'm all for Canada!
Coming from a boxer(me) I can say that the UFC is the future, even surpassing boxing. Most of my boxing buddies feel the same way. I would never step in the ring of a UFC bout. Its a bit too much for me. I can take a punch to the head pretty good, but having a knee to the head or body parts twisted until they break off just isn't my thing.
If any of you are boxing fans and havn't watched UFC in the past 3 years I encourage you to give it a shot. Alot of the rules have changed in the UFC and it has become a very well organized sport.
GSP GSP GSP!

I was going to post this before the fight but I figured since no one had already there would be no response to the thread. I watch UFC pretty much every week and I watch all pay per view event online :)
I knew Rush would win before they even walked in the ring. His conditioning was outstanding and theres no more deserving fighter for that belt in the UFC than George. He's a true sportsman and a wonderful athlete.
He rocked Matt so bad with that left kick to the head Matt didn't even realize what hit him. At the post fight interview Matt still hadn't composed himself. Hughes was a great champ but no match for St.Pierre now that he has some confidence and experience.
Boxing is weak. :D
I like Hughes. He is a good guy and a good sportsman. He complimented George on his fight and he didn't make any excuses. Nobody wins all their fights. The test of a champion is how he comes back after a loss.

Matt is getting older. 32 is getting to the point when you start to slow down.

Hughes will come back. This time, I just dont think he was ready for St.Pierre's determination. There will be a rematch, possibly GSP's 2nd or 3rd title defense. I'm sure Hughes will perform much better in that fight.

I'll be looking forward to GSP vs. Hughes 3. Both true champions.

Matt was on top of his game. He just got his ass kicked. Matt has always been a very one dimensional fighter and he was exposed Saturday. Why is it whenever some people lose they "weren't on top of their game" ? GSP is just better period.
Watch the BJ Penn vs Hughes fight, both of them. BJ is a lazy bastard who doesn't train cardio but lets not go there. Watch rounds one and two. It shows that Hughes is just a wrestler with great conditioning, but not a lot of actual MMA skill. BJ makes a joke out of him while he's fresh in the ring.

Yep, he has definately slowed down. Watch when he goes for the takedown on GSP only to stumble and be thrown off to the side. Either impressive on St.Pierre's part of just unimpressive for Hughes.

I called it.
Just like I called Franklin Losing to Silva... Silva is just a very bad man.

Tell that to Randy Couture ;)... Randy is still amazing (well ok... he retired now but still).
And PS... I hate Matt Hughes... he acted like such a dick sometimes it pissed me off.
