Dear Forum,

I've been playing around with lots of beta stuff. Here's what I'm currently trying to tackle:

http://users.wpi.edu/~mboeker/os_gpu.jpg

Legend:
(1) = ATI/nVidia/MS Drivers. Works fine, visuals correct.
(2) = nVidia 96.85 Drivers. Windows is fine, games flicker.
(3) = Not tried.
(4) = 97.19 Modded Drivers. Game runs smooth and flicker-free but Windows will not allow 1680x1050 (my native res) no matter what I do. Keeps telling me that 1600x1200 is max res, and 1600x1000 looks terrible.

I've tried modifying the .inf, using powerstrip, mixing drivers, etc. Nothing I do will get the 97.17 drivers (from 3D Guru) to allow that resolution. I've got an Acer AL2016W LCD, I've read that not all monitors are having this problem..

Anyone have any ideas about this?

I've also tried the 97.27 drivers but they seem to be GeForce Go only.

Thanks!

-Martin

Hi Martin,

I had the same problem with my 7600GS. I found that switching from DVI cable to standard VGA cable solved the problem. I could then select the native 1680x1050 resolution for my screen (A Packard Bell 22 Inch Widescreen).

Hope this helps.

Well, after trying the 97.19 drivers from Guru 3D it seems my suggestion doesn't work after all. It did work with 96.85.

Nevermind what I said.

Tom,

Thanks for the suggestion, however my Acer Monitor only does VGA...

I can run 1680x1050 fine on my 6800 ultra, but vista 32 bit. Which inf did you use to install these drivers since they don't have an installer?
