Hi,

Using Vista Business RTM (testing it here at work), and wanted to install Nvidia drivers. The 96.85 give me an error msg, that "the setup couldn't find any drivers that are compatible with your hardware".

Tried installing a set that was posted here, with a modified inf from laptop2go ( I think) which screwed up the card installation, now it's running on fumes (aka VGA), and I can't reinstall the drivers that come with the DVD :P

Any thoughts? Thanks.

NVIDIA haven't released any drivers for Windows Vista RTM yet.

Pretty poor effort by them considering they were right there through the betas and release candidates.

My laptop's X300 works better than my 2x 7800 GTX.

Nice one NVIDIA. :o

Release candidate drivers were just that

release candidate.. they were avaiable to test the operating system

Nvidia are now working on a set that provides the performance that G80 and lower users should be getting on Vista.. that and the fact that opengl on the 95+ sets seems to not work at full speed or at all

what would you prefer.. a driver that barely runs anything except the desktop

or one you can play your games on.
if you remember, the RC drivers weren't great at gameplay either and had thier issues.. so just be thankful that Nvidia is taking thier time to fix the drivers, instead of giving you a set that blows your system up. (figuratively speaking... hopefully...)

Yep, I do know there are no RTM drivers yet. My question was more like "help!" :) Vista doesn't "see" the drivers on the DVD, which is weird.

yeah.. i'll need more info then that :P

theres several NVS models

NVIDIA_NV34.DEV_032A.1 = "NVIDIA Quadro NVS 55/280 PCI"
NVIDIA_NV43.DEV_014A.1 = "NVIDIA Quadro NVS 440"
NVIDIA_NV44.DEV_0165.1 = "NVIDIA Quadro NVS 285"
NVIDIA_C51.DEV_0245.1 = "NVIDIA Quadro NVS 210S / NVIDIA GeForce 6150LE"

Hi, sorry again :)

Actually, it's a Quadro 4 400 NVS, DeviceID is 017A.

VEN_10DE&DEV_017A&SUBSYS_015D10DE&REV_A3

Edit: I tried to force the install, via choosing from a list, then "have a disk" and pointing it to the 96.85 folder, but I don't see it listed (though even so tried the NVS 440 driver). No go.

you should be able to get the ms drivers to reinstall by uninstalling the currently installed drivers and using the driver install wizard

Yep, but no go. When reinstalling the driver, I point it to the DVD but doesn't find any drivers. I point it to the /inf folder, inside the Windows folder, where there's the nv_disp.inf (which has the card listed), but no go as well.

you don't want nv_disp.inf, none of the released drivers support the NV20 (most of the drivers are to showcase Desktop composition and that requires DX9 which the NV20 doesn't support)

don'tt point it to the dvd, instead select a driver from the list (check under the microsoft drivers.)

Ok, now i'm boggled... before, when selecting "all devices", I had on the left column "Microsoft" to select (though I browsed through the list and didn't see at first the card listed). Now when I go there to look for it again (thoroughly), instead of the full list, I only get the Quadro listed... :mad:

nforced4good, thanks for your help (and patience). At the end of the day today, at work, decided to reinstall Vista, to do some more testing over there, so now things in the gfx department are back to normal :) Thanks.
