I have flickering textures in the wilderness while playing oblivion with my new 8800gtx.

Actually it's the trees textures that pop up and disappear quite often. Is this a known issue? I've tried the latest 97.28 drivers too but to no avail.

I noticed that with the 96.89 drivers, but the 97.02 drivers resolved that problem. Only thing I noticed with the 97.02 drivers is a glitch with the torch flames leaving a trail of some sort periodically floating in the air behind my character.

I feared this could be a faulty resistor card but it doesn't seem to be the case.

Nope it's the drivers the new drivers fix the shimmering in Ghost Recon also, however still have shimmering in BF2, and MASSIVE currupt textures in Splinter Cell double Agent :(

So the new drivers don't fix Oblivion either? The funny thing is that 96.89 work a lot better for me.

Well i havn't tried all to much just got my GTX this morning and used the drivers that came with the Card, funny Ghost recon comes with the card and with the driver inbox you get shimmering lol i guess they never throught to test it out. I'll try Oblivion again with these drivers and see what happens.

97.02 does it too. I was in an area last night in Obliv that was flickering like crazy with 97.02s.

Well at least now I know it's a common issue... Let's hope for next drivers, 97.28 are no good.

Actually 96.89 work better with Oblivion for me, don't know why.

If you don't have viewing distance maxed for trees and such things you may want to turn it up. I could see this happening with general viewing distance set to max, yet trees on early fade.

I play Oblivion a lot with my own custom config file, a distant LOD pak, and all set to max viewable distance. I haven't seen this with the 97.02 driver.

Interesting, will try that tip about tree viewing distance, although I think if it was that it should happen also with 96.89 but with PCs you never know.

I too use a distant LOD pak, which is yours?

It's not the ini, it happens with the default ini too.

Haven't seen any flickering with the 97.02s or 97.28s although I just started using the 97.28s yesterday so haven't done a lot with them yet.

Edit: This is with game settings maxed but no tweaks, mods, etc. so essentially, the default ini file.

I am now using 96.98 (not 89) the ones alienware released and they are better although I always get some little glitch.
I don't use the textures you find ingame but all the most detailed texture packs out there like Qarls and so on, visually they put this game really in a league of its own. Performance gets a hit but you walk each step in total awe.

What modded 97.02 are you using?

He is refering to have an added .inf file so the driver support other cards but the G80 range.

Thats really weird. I had the shadow flickering with the 96.89's and the 97.02 drivers fixed it for me. I don't get it.

Well i have to go through the WHOLE thing again since i had to reinstall windows after someone currupted my windows installation *sigh* But on the plus side games are running alot better now :) heck suspreme commander is running amazingly even with 8x FSAA. SO i am going to have to start again in Oblivion and i will see if the flickering is still there.

Nope no flicker shadows :) SO the 97.28 drivers seem to be fine, running @ 8x FSAA + 16x AF and is far smoother then my dual 7800GTX cards *droops*

Q: Is the scaling setting still b0rked with the 97.28 drivers as in the 97.02? I am running a wide-screen display.. And I hate it when my 4:3 games are stretched 16:10. My display supports 4:3 mode.. But because the 97.02 driver sticks in nvidia-scaling (no aspectratio corrected) and not in display-scaling mode. Effectively makes the 4:3 setting of my display completely useless.

I am running an 8800GTX b.t.w.
