View Full Version : Announcing GPU:Rumor Watch
Hey everyone!
Ever realized you weren't up to date on the GPU indutry's future and present? Not knowing what the NV31 really is, or when a rumored card will be released?
Or maybe you're growing tired of visiting loads and loads of forums and websites only to find very little information?
Well, then, I'd like to introduce you to GPU:Rumor Watch ( GPU:RW )
My goal is to link and summarize a lot of worthy rumors. For each of them, I give a "reliability" appreciation, which is really just my personal opinion based on past accuracy of the source.
Instead of searching fifty years to know what's the latest information on the NV35, a single page will give it all to you.
Here's the link: http://www.notforidiots.com/GPURW.php
I hope you'll enjoy this.

LOL! What a great idea. :D
Here's another rumour for you; NV31 won't use memory clocked faster than ~275MHz because above that active termination is required and the BOM increase of ~$4.00 per board was deemed too high to justify. :)
The fastest NV31-based boards should intially be clocked at 350/275MHz ("350/550MHz" in PR bullsh!t talk).

Thanks :) And interesting info you got there!
Could that significantly reduce the NV31 memory overclocking potential? If so, that's very bad news!
Also, you say it increases cost *per board* - so that would indicate it's a per board cost, and not a per chip cost. Could board manufacturers decide to include this, if they want to put higher memory speeds than default? Such as for Gainward "Golden Samples", maybe?

Uttar, Kudos on your site, i think its very good.
I really like how you have dates posted (to make a good timeline) and how you rate the reliability.
I also like that its php :D

No more than in past cards. I doubt AIBs will sell anything that doesn't have a reference board - so probably nothing with a substantially higher memory clock in the near future.
Clocks for the R350 samples they are showing off this week have been fixed at 380/340Mhz I think (mentioned this in a thread on R3D).

Nice Uttar :)
edit: Put the date/time text with a different size, the news would became more "readable" :) just a suggestion.
Oh yeah - NV31 and NV34 are being launched on the 6th. Nothing to back that up - I just pulled it straight from the depths of my arse. :)

Am I the only who thinks "who cares" at this point?
wondering about it isn't going to change what comes out...you just get what you get when it comes out...
I can see worrying about release dates, but anyone who buys one w/o seeing the reviews is nutz, especially after we've seen how un-wonderful the NV30s have been.
Don't get me wrong, it's a nice card, and I may get one over a 9700, but it's just another product to not live up to it's hype...

Well, half the fun is speculating :D
When the R350 or NV35 comes out, its like so last year ;D

Uttar excellent idea!
I like how you judge the Reliability of the rumor from Low to Very High.

Cool, bookmarked NOW!!!!!!! :afro:
Hi,
cool idea, especially because not many have the time to visit all the forums anyway. However I have some improvements ideas.
Could u make it a 5 colum page with the colums:
1. date
2. source
3. rumor
4. reliability
5. ex post evaluation (was it true, not true)
I know we all say, that The Inquirer ist not reliable and so, but this would be a great possiblity to prove that (if it is true).
Bye

First of all, thanks for all the nice comments :)
Let me first say that the reliability thing is really just an indicator. And I don't just base it on the name of the source, also on how sure he seems of it and other stuff. It's really just how reliable *I* think it is, directly when I see it. It's certainly better than nothing, but nobody flame me when something "Low" is true and something "Very High" is false! :)
I've recieved multiple suggestions to improve design - and, well, I'm not good at that! :)
Making it a table would be the most obvious solution. I'll probably try that first. Not sure when I'll become less lazy and implement it :D Might take several years ;)
As for saying if it's true once the information is made public... Well, I fear that would take me way too much time.
BTW, I've been considering doing the following in the future:
1. Only display things which got a warning ( there currently are two things with warnings on the page. That's the R400 being delayed until next year and The Inquirer giving a lot of RV350/R350 info )
2. Letting people search with keywords ( for example, to find everything related to the NV35 )
What do you think of that?
Also, I still didn't implement a limit on the number of rumors being displayed by default. I'm thinking of putting that limit around 50. Do you think that's reasonable?
I'd also put a button to not have the limit, but it wouldn't be the default. Note that I'm way too lazy to implement pages! :)

Uttar thats ok about the reliability part. We all are only human and make mistakes. It happens. I take all rumors not being true anyway. If its not true i am not disappointed sense i never take rumors as being true intill i know 100% for sure.
Please don't include whether the "rumours" come true, dude. No point drawing too much attention.

What did you mean, exactly? No point everyone seeing your rumors are correct, and everyone else's are false? :D
Sounds logical :) And optimistic!
But you know, you're already drawing a fair bit of attention. You're posting more rumors alone than everyone else united!
I may have to rename GPU:RW to "Mufu News" :P
Just joking, keep up the good job! It's nice to have so much rumors, and it's even better that they're fairly reliable.
Uttar
Fair enough.
You have a PM, BTW. ;)
MuFu.
In the last rumor...shouldn't that be 9900 with 256 of RAM ?
