I think this is getting out of control, i love buying from newegg, but $600 over MSRP? And $500 over most other retailers, i cant believe anyone would buy a QX6700 from them. Also the Striker Extreme, $409, according to Froogle, is the highest price on the net. When i started shopping at newegg almost 3 years ago, they had some of the best prices around, but now i think that it has gone to their head and they feel like they can charge w/e they want for high-end hardware. Looks like im buying my QX6700 from tiger direct....

I guess it may be worth that much to some people, and maybe it is, but when you can get it cheaper someplace else, paying more @ newegg just cuz its newegg is annoying IMO. I want a striker extreme, but $400 is a bit hard on my budget.

I know how you feel. It's $600 over here and I'm seriously considering going Intel 965. I just have to work out if I really intend to go SLI or not. I can get a nice sensible Abit 965 board for $230, and from what I hear the 965 boards overclock like champs. I will probably wait for some other 680 boards, or even the 650 boards.

Well if anyone wants a mobo rumored to have better oc'ing for less, theres always DFI's RD600, which is supposed to be about $220. If you're not going SLI that is, and you are ok with buying ATI chipsets lol.

Hell, I think a lot of hardware is getting stupidly (nice word, eh?) overpriced these days.

I agree, I remember when the best P4 (it was a P4 670 like 3 yrs ago or so) it cost me about $700 at a local comp store and a FX5900, that rig back then cost me less then a QX6700, those were th days :thumbdwn:

Your probably the only one in any forum I've read that is recommending a Gigabyte over Asus for P965. P5B Deluxe is the better O/Cer.

There's this crazy way free market economies work...

Supply (the amount of a given product) and demand (the consumers' want of said product) determine the market value of a good.

Low supply + high demand = raping and pillaging of your wallet.

This is the second thread you have started about Newegg

BOTH threads complain about the same chip

Why the need for 2? They aren't going to lower the price if you complain enough

As it is a better game chip compaire the the new FX CPU's they see little compeition so jacked up the prices.
I was looking at the QX6700 but have been getting 2nd throughts and if the Q6600 is price right i will get that.

come on, they have lost their mind, its just too much, of course, that depends on how much are you willing to pay for a new rig, if you have 4000$ to spare, maybe its fine, but its too much for me!!:thumbdwn:

Thats true, but that was over a week ago, when the price was $1499, I thought if anything the price would go down. I was astounded to see the price at $1599, thats why I started another thread. Since this 2nd thread has started, the price has gone up an additional $100, and is now $1699. I dont know about you, but I find a $700 mark up on a $1000 chip, several weeks after its release, to be far worse then a $500 mark up only a week or so after release. Thats why i posted again...sorry.

As far as them lowering the price because of my threads, you're probably right, they wont. However, thats not why i started them, I thought maybe someone could find an explanation, as Newegg's price is far higher then any other retailer.

I think they are just being opportunistic. Supply is rather thin for boxed retail versions at the moment, coupled with recent reviews of AMDs' 4x4 platform showing the Kentsfield to be a much better performer at a lower price point, and you wind up with Newegg trying to time the market demand for the QX6700 for alot more money. With time, their prices will have to come down because no one will buy them for $1700.00!
