NVIDIA told world + dog that it's Geforce 8800 GTX and GTS driver is now scheduled for the middle of December. Nvidia still doesn’t want to give away the driver to its partners nor the press but some key guys were informed that the G80 driver is in a good shape and works well. We certainly hope that they are right.
Vista comes out at the end of January and the Nvidia will be ready for that timeframe with the final driver. It just doesn’t want to unnecessarily jump the gun and reveal some bugs while it has time to polish the driver before it lets it out.
Geforce 8800 GTX and GTS have a very good Windows XP SP2 driver and this is the OS where Nvidia keeps its focus at. Vista gaming is still to come and some frustrated G80 early Vista birds can only watch the card and cry. Not even aero works without Nvidia's help but the driver is on the way, some ten+ days to go, unless Nvidia delays it again.
Still, you should not worry about the driver as it hundred percent comes out for the end of January. As for DX10 games that is different story, you can run a DX 10 SDK and that's about it for the time being. µ

Ok here it goes again....
I think this is the third time INQ specualtes about a vista driver release for the g80's..
And if you read the article, what kind of BS is it when they say "Geforce 8800 GTX and GTS have a very good Windows XP SP2 driver "
Are you kidding me, which version is a good 8800 driver?
I tried, 97.02, 97.28 and 98.89 .. hmm
anyone else of you are having slowdowns in the driver after a few windows reboots? And settings does not always stick. I am telling you all, I do a clean windows install, and latest 97.28 + latest nforce 680i drivers. I don't even open up the new control panel, instead i am using nvtray and nhancer to apply all settings, even then I have super performance only for a few reboots until the driver bugs and give poor performance again. And the tv out (DVI2HDMI) to my 40 inch HD plasma tv, overscan like hell!!!
What is going on with the driver department of Nvidia?

Mmm as far as I can see they've speculated twice and this time they seem to have some actual information from Nvidia about it, that hardly means they're going to be right.
Essentially what they're telling us is that Nvidias driver is going to be sometime between now and when vista is launched to the public.
Every single one of us could have guess that!

Who cares about vista, cant we just get a decent XP driver already!

+1 : i don't give a f*** to the Vista drivers : i just want decent 8800 XP drivers to play SCDA ! (normally December 7th if JackUp is right :D )

I hope you guys know that just because there'll be a Vista driver, doesn't mean that the XP driver will suck. I think they're focusing more on XP now, and just trying to get a Vista driver out. THEN after the 30th, they'll create a performance driver for Vista. I'm sure they have a Vista driver team, and an XP driver team.

Hi guys, this is my first post on the forums. I have had the 8800gtx for a few weeks now, and love it. But I have some concerns now about Vista. Microsoft is coming to my school this thursday and giving a free, full version of Vista to the people who were able to secure a ticket for the seminar. Well I am one of those... So am I not going to be able to install vista with my 8800 because there will be no video being output? Or will I just not be able to play games?
The INQ is just gonna keep guessing until its released..
If it doesnt show up by then, they´ll pick a new release and post that.
Then pride themselves on their "accuracy" and "sources" when it finally shows up.

The INQ is pretty good at stating all the possibilities and then they end up being right in the end...
What we need is a friggin' Vista driver that supports SLI! Screw the G80, how bout a driver I can use my SLId 7800GTXs with?!? Well, don't screw the G80, but come on!
Agreed. We need a solid driver from nvidia that will allow us to run any SLI capable video card in SLI mode under Windows Vista. But please, don't screw the G80!

defaults in vista to 1280x1024 max res and no 3d accel.

And as an added kick in the balls, no Media Center (TV anyways) or any video playback.
Enjoy!

What about 96.89 driver on the CD that came with Geforce 8800 GTS and GTX? I installed 97.02 first time and found it was the worst driver with faint flickers in every resolutions and screen became like torned and jumpy n half every 15 seconds in games. Then I tried 96.89 driver and found it the best and stable driver, no more faint flicker on desktop, no torned and jumpy screen in games.

ME TOO WE WANT XP DRIVERS!!!!:(
I'm going to upgrade to Vista Business. Finally, i got my free copy, and after testing various versions of Vista Trial for the last 30 days, i can tell that OS is not ready for anything but only gaming when final drivers gets released.
There are so many program compatibility problems, that i'm going to stick with Windows XP as far as business goes.
Vista Business is going to be he best choice for my gaming machine. It's basically Pro version....Can't wait for Nvidia and Creative drivers...probably by Christmas...

Friday yo :)
Friday yo :)
I'll believe it when I see it.
And I want to believe!
I asked on the official nvidia forum if this rumor of 8800 XP drivers for December 7th could be confirmed or not and here is the answer of the moderator (Brian)
Hope you're right, but I haven't been told, so I can't confirm.

So, don't put too high expectations for drivers this week :thumbdwn:

He only stated he didn't know, it's not a confirmed "No, no drivers will be released on the 7th".
Friday yo :)
The 8th then, not the 7th. (I know you didn't say the 7th, but others before hand had)
I won't hold my breath. Personally, I think the Inquirer is crap and why people believe what they say is beyond me. I've yet to see them be right about a driver release.

Hmm, stop me if i'm wrong but he is a moderator from an official nvidia forum : no ? So if even these guys don't know if 8800 drivers would be released or not this week, i don't see the point of having an official forum on Nvidia :(

I don't believe they would be able to tell you anyways.

I'm talking about the XP/x64 driver that Jakup has talked about...

He didn't say they wouldn't be coming... Even if he is a moderator on the official nV forums he might not know, he's just a moderator. Even if he does he will most likely be bound by either a verbal or signed contract not to announce non-concrete release dates for drivers.

They could at least give a week time-frame, that's not much to ask for. Next week, week after, and so on, instead of this 'we don't know'. Then we wouldn't waste our time playing hockey with the latest driver release rumor from TheInquirer...
unless...nVidia is in cahoots with TheInq.
DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN.
Will the drivers be released this week? Can the performance increase on the 8800GTX? Will a classic outro to the original Batman & Robin 1970's television series ever stop being parodied?
Be sure to tune in next week for all those answers and more! Same threaded forum, same threaded website.
