How long are they staying with the current socket? I'll be interested in a i680soon, but I want to make sure I'll be able to go quad with it in time. It always sucks when they switch out the socket and you have to get a new board to get the CPU you want.

Don't worry about the socket, Intel will keep the 775 for a long time. Even maybe through its 3rd generation of quad core chips.

hopefully Penryn will be socket capatible, but in 2008, Intel plans to introduce Nanhelm (sorry can't spell), which will use CSA (Intel's version of HT) and very possibly on die memory controller. So a new socket in 08 is pretty much guranteed.
