Microsoft hopes to sell 200K units by the year's end in Japan. This number is still pathetic compared to what i.e. a new Pokemon game sells in a week but it's an absolute record for the Xbox in the land of rising sun.

Wow, that is quite the lineup for the 360 in Japan. Sure it still is short, but lets face it Japanize interest in the 360 so far has been worse than crap. By that line alone the numbers of 360's sold might double for the month.

Point of clarification - manga is read (print), anime is watched (TV). Regardless of the medium, hentai is pretty gross.

Success in Japan is important to a console. If it can succeed in Japan (or at least not fail) then it has a better chance of having a longer life and maybe another console after it. Success in Japan also means more dev support for the console- sure, a bunch of the games might be Japanese, but some good gmes for other countries can come out of it too

If you care anything about your console, then you should care just a tiny bit about it's success in Japan. Not something to lose sleep over though

Xbox was a miserable failure in Japan and there are hundreds of great games for it.

Yeah there's Halo... uh... Halo 2... the map pack.

Well there are hundreds of games, I'll grant you that.

I'm sorry but the Xbox just didn't have a lot of good exclusives. Halo, Project Gotham, Morrowind (but that was on PC too), Fable (which was overhyped, but still a good game), Jade Empire, and maybe a few others. But you know for every good title the Xbox had, the Playstation had 3 or 4. I don't think the Xbox suffered quite the drought of good games as the GameCube, as it at least had some 3rd party support, but it was close.

This time around the 360 has some GREAT exclusives and it's really starting to pick up steam as we enter the 2nd and 3rd gen 360 games. Lost Planet, BioShock, Mass Effect, Halo 3, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Elveon, and there are PLENTY more where that came from.

bioshock, elveon and mass effects are not exclusive, unless you meant exclusive on console

Mass Effect is a 360 exclusive. BioWare has stated that multiple times.

Chris Priestly: Mass Effect is planned as an Xbox 360 exclusive title. This means we are not working on a PC version and have no plans to start making one.

BioShock was said to be a 360 exclusive I believe, but I heard rumors it may come to PC. Elveon I'm not sure about, but I remember reading somewhere it was only for the 360.

Before I would have said the 360 would not last long without Japanese support but not with what I see coming from Western developers who IMO are surpassing the Japanese in every way. The overflow of cute, weird niche stuff are not really selling anymore except for on the Nintendo DS. The Japanese have been slow to adapt while using a wait and see approach on the 360 except for Capcom that gave the system its all and managed to sell over 900,000 well deserved copies of Dead Rising. Also I think the 360 has all the support it really needs this time around. Square and Kojima would be great but Capcom, Bird Studios and Team Ninja makes up for it.

Also with there consumers I dont think its a case of there not being games for there taste anymore but the fact they just dont think highly of a American system. That said I also think MS does a terrible job at marketing the 360 there. One indication of this is there marketplaces which compared to the US version is a disgrace.

For RPG's, the PS3 may still be the system of choice but I think the 360 will have a nice collection of unique under appreciated (sales wise) classics this time around. I hope Blue Dragon sells well.

Really? What RPGs does the PS3 have going for it right now? Oh that's right none... Any good looking RPGs set up for the near future? Well.... final fantasy XIII which is TBA 2007.... hmmm... struggling to see exactly what you mean there LiquidX

Who GIVES A **** if a game is "exclusive"? Is that just so you can say "HEhEHEHheHEHEHEHehhE it's only on my console HhHEheHEhEhEHEH,"

Your really fooling yourself if you dont think the PS3 will get its fair amount of RPG's in the future like the PS1 and PS2 did. Lets not forget the system is less than a month old. The PS2 was the system of choice for RPG lovers and I dont think devs would just throw that away and sometimes all a system needs is RPG like Final Fantasy 7.

I also don't give a rats ass about *any* games from Japanese dev's. X360 is an American brand with great games from American and European devs.

The Japanese have no clue how to make games ike Gears of War, Splinter Cell etc. Those are the games I care about. Japanese acceptance is irrelevant to the success of the 360.

I agree. Gears of War is simply amazing, I'm really looking forward to all of the above you just listed, except for Elveon which I haven't heard of.

Well the thing about exclusives is that they give people a reason to buy one console over another. Without them, all consoles may as well be equal. I mean live support and blu-ray help, but at the end of the day, it's all about the games.

Rather than 150 if it had succeeded?

Point is, success in Japan = more customers. It's not like a console sold in the US means more than in Japan. It means more profit for the company, period. Which, if there's enough of it, success
