So any of you guys with 8800GTX's get a buzzing or whining sound from your card under load? Mainly with ATI Tool? The sound only occurs on 3d apps, the smaller the window the louder it will be. If it is full screen the buzzing isn't as loud.

I was searching around the net and found a numerous amount of other people with this. Some say it is the mosfets on the card vibrating, which is highly likely thats the case.

MOFETs are sometimes noisy. After the bad resistor fiasco, NVdia did recommend to check the MOSFET... Go figure.

http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=4819

The artifacts and crashing are a result of an incorrect resistor value. According to the document, a 50K ohm resistor was installed instead of a 30K ohm and results in artifacts during heavy operation. Nevertheless, the document recommends checking the MOSFET to ensure the proper ones were installed and replace them if necessary.

I was having this problem before I change power supplies. I was getting the buzzing/whining sound when I had very high frame rates or running a stress test.

I get that too did it with my 7800GTX setup also, but my 700w (12v 60A total) should be enough for a single GTX. I notice the noise mostly in Oblivion in the menu and have frame rates about 1700 and Companey of heros performance test.

Hi Guy's well im very happy to find some Guy's with the Problem i have! :)

Okay i will start from the beginning...

2 weeks ago i get my MSI NX8800GTX with some other PC Components.
During the installation of the Motherboard and the 8800GTX i lost the Serialnumber of the 8800GTX somewhere and i think i through it away with the other paper of the Motherboard... Damn me!!!!!!

Now no one will give me a new 8800GTX cuz i don't have the Serialnumber...

Well i have the same problem like you told here:

Every time the Card changed from 2D to 3D it start's to become very creapy noisy :(

I already checked the resistor like shown here:

http://www.techpowerup.com/img/06-11-08/DOC2006110300-1%20EVGA%20N831%20P355-B01%20Artifact%20Problem%20Report_3.jpg

Well the resistor is okay 25k ohm now you tell that the Mofets can be the problem...?

Here is a video of my 8800GTX the first 1 - 2 sec. in 2D and than in 3D it sounds like a drill... :(

http://rapidshare.com/files/7067680/MPG_0225.rar.html

This noisy sound is always only in 3D mode but it never goes.
It is there from the first sec. of the 3D mode till i go back to 2D.

I already tested ATI tool with Artifacts Scan i i got no Problem... No Artifacts?

Someone knows whats wrong with it?

I wouldn't worry about it. If the card works fine keep it. Someone told me that it might be the drivers causing the card to make the sound. He is checking with nvidia to verify this atm.

Hi Roadhog,

thank you for the answer. :)

Well but im a little bit worry about my System it's just 2 weeks old and i had to pay around 2000 $ for it!!!

I really don't want to crash my complete system just becouse of a defekt 8800GTX...

What could be the most badest thing happend with the MSI 8800GTX?
Can it explode? or something like it? :(

Im sure if anything happened it would just stop working. Then all you would have to do is RMA it and then you have yourself a new card. :D

Where did you enable vSync? In Nvidia Controle Panel 3D Settings?

And than Vertical Syncronisation Automatically on?

It's in the control panel where you have the profiles and enable FSAA + AF etc 2nd from the bottom or around there.

Great, I'm not the only one!

I get the problem most notably while playing Oblivion in the maner stated above, when looking at a menu it hits 1800+ FPS and the sound is quite noticeable.

I have got it somewhat under control by enableing V-sync but its an artificial fix if you ask me, just caps your FPS thus not as much noise.

I didn't have this problem with the 97.02's but then again I can't remember if I had V-sync already enabled or not.

Seriously, does anyone think this is a precursor to a serious problem?

yeah I saw that. I don't see how it would hurt the card... I'll just keep mine till it dies.

Mine did that when in intense 3D scenes, for about 3 months, then my PSU died. Thing is, the buzzing was coming from my fuse box in the basement. Also, it seemed to start when I got this 24" LCD. As a test, I connected back to my NEC 21" Multisync monitor and it went away, but I usually only ran at 1600x1200 or less with it but always game at 1920x1200 with the LCD, so I think it was definitely load related.

It doesn't do it with the new PSU.
