I have an intel d101 motherboard, n it supports DDR memory...n has pci express slot. I have the normal 180 watts power supply unit. I was wondering if i could use a Geforce 7300gt pci express card with my system cuz i have checked it on the net n found the card to be in DDR2 n DDR3 memory types? Moreover, is the 180 watt power supply any good with this card?

What upgrades i might need?

or

is my system all set to support this card with those memory types i.e DDR2 or DDR3?

I would say that the 180Watt PSU will not hold up too well depending on what CPU etc you have.

If I can remember the 7300GT will use about 25watt under load or there abouts.

Ok, dude...but what about the DDR thing? I have this D101 board...n it supports DDR ram...so, can i use a 7300gt DDR2 with this board?

I hope the DDR support of my board only applies to the dimm slots...n not to the pci express slots.

Yes you can have any memory type on the graphics card. It does not matter what Mainboard you have.

Yes, the memory on the video card is completely independent from the memory on your motherboard.

Also, unless you absolutely need to save cash and have no need for the extra performance, get the GDDR3 version! Compare the standard speeds:

GDDR2 version: 350 core/667 memory
GDDR3 version: 520 core/1400 memory

7300GT GDDR3 is faster than the 7600GS, and slightly slower than a 6800GT.

ok, thanx, fellas.

N how abt a RADEON™ X1650 PRO with 256mb, as compared to the cards u have mentioned?

The 7300GT GDDR3 beats the X1650pro in the majority of games, and by quite a large margin. For Oblivion outdoors, the two will about the same.

And the Nvidia card uses a lot less wattage power to boot
