ok, so i told my parents i wanted a Dell 2407FPW for christmas, but i want to make sure i am making the right choice. so im looking for LCD monitors ($500-$800) that are widescreen. i want a monitor that will be futureproof and will last me at least 5 years (at least). i want to be able to watch HDTV on it as well (1080 resolution).

i would like to get the largest possible on this budget with the best features. (obviously, heh). so please recommend me a monitor and tell me why.

also, do you think prices will be dropping after christmas? if so, how much?

thx

I have the older model Dell 24" LCD and I love it.

You might want to take a look at the BenQ FP241W, the Dell 2407 seems to have some color problems even in later revisions. Also, the BenQ has an HDMI port which the Dell lacks (though the Dell is still HDCP compliant). The one fault with the BenQ is that it lacks 1:1 pixel mapping, but that's only really an issue if you have an ATI card, so with your 7800 it's not a problem at all.

I'd say go with the Dell. I have one (an A03 revision) and it is fantastic. It has no colour problems (not sure what you're referring to K-1). The banding issues that were in the original revisions (A00, A01, and A02) are gone. It is a beautiful display.

Regarding the issues anandtech lists on the Dell 2407, the banding is gone on teh A03 revisions (it states banding on A02 which there was). As for the oversaturation on A03 revisions....not sure about that one. I don't think that's a big deal. It's nothing that can't be fixed using a colour calibrator or the settings in the nvidia control panel...

My 2405FPW is an A05, no color banding, rich colors and even the darks and blacks in D3 and FEAR look natural and deep.

I don't know any one who has a 2407, but IF they have the color issues fixed, it would have my vote.
