I have tried all the drivers from 96.89 to 97.44, and I can't fix the crappy frame rates I get in the ORIGINAL Call of Duty and United Offensive. At times it drops to low 20FPS and even teens. Before I got the 8800GTS, my 7900GT almost never dropped below 100FPS (all same ingame and Nvidia CP settings). I know that it is a specific driver problem and not my system, as currently my 8800GTS never drops below 60FPS in F.E.A.R with 4AA/16AF, High Quality CP setting and 1600X1200 resolution!! Moreover, Oblivion at 1600X1200 ran flawlessly. Please help, as COD is my fav. game.

I remember having similar issue (but with the GF6/7 series) & never found a fix for it.
according to xbit benchmarks the OpenGL performance for the 8800 is not what it should be. i'd wait for a next driver release.

also make sure to post this issue on the 8800 issues thread. it could help.

it seems with the 8800 nividia is adopting the philosophy in with th new out with the old. alot of older games dont work smoothly with this card. all we can do is sit and wait for fix's.

I posted this in the 8800 problems thread as well, thanks for that suggestion. Seriously guys, I have had it with Nvidia. When I first got my 7900GT in April, I had gone through 3 RMAs because of a bad memory voltage regulator. Just this month, as part of my last RMA, XFX let me pay the difference to get the 8800GTS. I got the card and was finally satisfied with my rig. Upon getting it, I did a clean XP install, and just when I though I had everything down pat, this happens. Call of Duty is pretty much unplayable, even with the settings turned down really low. I really hope that NVIDA reps read this forum and do something about it, because if this does not get fixed, the 8800GTS would be the last Nvidia product that I will ever buy.

I am installing the game now, i remember playing this game on my ATi 9800 and it ran flawlessly.

Well i just had a quick go with call of Duty and it worked pefectly fine for me with 8x FSAA + 16x AF was getting around 230~300fps.

Any frames over your refresh rate are pointless, so for most of you with LCDs that equals 60. My 21" CRT can do 100Hz at 1600X1200 resolution so I cap all my games to 100FPS.

I normaily hav vsync on but in some games i want to know whats the highest frame rates and lowest so i know if it's my CPU or video card.

Both Call of Duty and United Offensive work fine on my syste. There was a point early in Call of Duty where the framerate dropped with a lot of enemies in a building. That was the only time I had a problem with either game. I run them at 1280X1024 with 4X AA and 8X AF.

Did you try out multiplayer, because I found the problems mostly with multiplayer? Moreover, Call of Duty itself was not too bad, but United Offensive was terrible. In an intense firefight the frames just drop to the point that its choppy and slide show like. Which drivers are you using BTW?

P.S I tried just about everything, including a fresh XP install, re-installing the game itself, and the various drivers.

I myself never had any problems and am using 97.44. However i don't have a 8800GTS, but have a 8800GTX.

I replied there - no problems at all.

Using a GTS @ 650/2Ghz, 97.28 drivers and NO SYNC. My guess is you are using ntune (which everyone knows causes performance issues) or a vsync issue. I was 200 - 250 in COD UO at 1280x1024 4xaa, 16af, gc and trans aa multi on.

Yea, I just cant agree with that statement. Mine is butter smooth its not the card - unless it's starved for power or throttling in a hot case.
