My guess is no one really cares, but just something I noticed after seeing everything laid out side-by-side in this digitimes article (http://www.digitimes.com/NewsShow/Article.asp?datePublish=2003/03/04&pages=04&seq=13)
Both nvidia and ati will have very similar names for their high, mid, and low end products.
nvidia - ati
5800 vs 9800
5600 vs 9600
5200 vs 9200
Like I said, no one probably cares, but it's a somewhat interesting coincidence anyway
And at least for NVIDIA, all three would have two versions.
The Geforce FX 5800 Ultra can not hope to stand against a Radeon 9800Pro due to the massive amount of extra raw bandwith over it. Price wise i would say they would sell the same.

I think same applies to ati... instead of having ULTRA and non-ULTRA... ati will go with PRO and non-PRO...
:)
hence 6 products each...
I don't think nVIDIA will do that really, they have never done that for each class b4.
AFAIK, in what you listed, there's only 5 nVidia products, and 6 ATI products.
Uttar
I'm not sure if there are two versions of 9200. Are there? :confused:
I saw a article saying ASUS has two versions of the Ti5200 but the only diffrence was in the memory speed 333MHz Vs 400MHz.

Marketing has allways done that, look at the Ford F150, Chevy 1500 and the dodge 1500's.... it seems they all just copy eachtoher and do it no matter what.(thats just one example, there are many many more out there)

Maybe they should switch to Intels nameing system, where no one can pernoucne it so that would stop rumors. We would be like
Hey i herd that one chip has this new feature!
Example Tutalitian (still cant spell it) :D That is the name for The p3 that 1ghz+ and some had more cach -s serries

NV30 = R300
NV35 = R350
NV40 = R400
et al.
Of course this breaks down with R280 etc, but it's fun when it works.
should be:
R300<=NV30<=R350<=NV35<=R400<=NV40 ;)

Yes and no.
They eventualy used the same core (BUT WITH NO CACH like 64k) for a celery.
but the Tutalatin-S had 512k L2 fullspeed. Sure its old, but that was unherd of back then.
It wiped the floor on higher clocked P4's. (those were all pre northwood).
The Tulatin was everything the p4 wanted to be, and thats why Northwood got such a big cach :P (i love my 2.53ghz is so fluffy)
