Hey guys how much of a performance boost will the Intel quad-core give me over my current AMD FX-62.
keep in mind if i do get the quad core ill overclock it to 3.0+

so any ideas on a performance percentage over the AMD?

day and night... probably like 10000% faster ;)

well, I had a FX-62 with a ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe mobo, and now my QX6700 and my EVGA 680i, it feels like its twice as fast (it seems likes a FX-62 running @ 4+ ghz) and its fast, thats all you need to know, and also, the Nforce 680i blows the Nforce 590 when it comes to OC :)

You might want to rephrase that or add a little more to it... ;)

ok :D

the Nforce 680i blows the Nforce 590 out of the water when it comes to OC, and the QX6700 is 65 nm tech so thus, its cooler and allows better OC compared to the FX

there, did I rephrase it :D

In games, I wouldnt expect a lot, no more than a couple fps at normal resolutions.

Go for it, you'll love it.

I will be getting one next year. With good cooling I'd expect you to land more on the order of 3.4GHz than an even 3.0.

Here's an example of a very good air OC with the QX6700.

If anyone else is thinking about a FX-62, spring for a 183usd E6300 or a 220usd E6400 instead. The below bench is from Anand and was done with the stock HSF. I've seen a lot of folks clock them from 3.4-3.6GHz on 965 with a good aftermarket HSF with very little trouble. If you got the extra cash try the E6600 for 309usd, I love mine. (The prices I am quoting are from Newegg as of today)

You mean at 1024x768 with no AA or AF?

No, I don't think that's what he means. If the CPU is causing a bottleneck like in that case, it will make a huge difference. But if your running 16 x 12 or better with AA and AF, the differences will be very small since the GPU is the bottleneck, not the CPU.

For everything else though, the QX6700 would creamate the FX-62.

Well i have seen the 65nm Athlons and they run freaking cool, around 14C idle!!

???? (bs) 14C ~ 57F, which would mean either your house is really cold, or somehow your proc is running below room temp.

well i run 1280x1024 4xaa 16xaf and thats a semi-cpu limited resolution. so now that i got my conroe rig otw I should see some nice increases in FPS.

my sisters 3000+ s939 sempron runs below room temp with cool and quiet on, the fan gives it the extra few degrees below room temp.
