I'm assuming the DS is allowed to be discussed here...

I just got one for Christmas along with Brain Age. It's charging right now. Anyway, I'm wondering it any of you have any of those accessory packs I've seen all over Buy.com and other sites. They generally come with a carrying case, screen guards, a few styluses, game cases, etc.

Are there any "must have" DS accessories?

And so forth. Thanks for any insight.

Don't buy that 3rd party crap. Only buy official Nintendo brand accessories.

All you really need is a good screen protector and case. Hori IMO makes the best quality ones. I would recommend buying from playasia that ships fast.

I have friends who speak very highly of the Play-Asia cases. Definitely order from them and stick with Nintendo 1st party accessories.

I got an "18 in 1 pro starter kit" from Intec (similar to the one in the second link). Was only $10 and it works well enough, for accessories it really doesn't make much difference who manufactures it. I don't have a Lite though, just an original style DS, so I can't use the case. Other than that the included items (fingertip stylus, car adaptor, game cases, etc.) work well for me.

Oh, and I'd recommend against using a screen protector like those that stick down onto the screen. The DS screen already has a scratch resistant coating on it so they don't really help that much, and they also void your warranty from what I've heard. Plus it's fairly easy for dust or airbubbles to get under/around the coating.

Otherwise I don't think any accessories are really neccessary to use a DS. Nothing really sticks out as being very important for it, there isn't a lot you'd need that isn't built into it to begin with. Oh, and I'm also using a PSP case for the old style DS. It seems it's almost the exact size so it fits perfectly.

My technophobe Ma got a DS Lite for Xmas, at first she was like "WTF" ...but then she was sat there for hours playing with it LOL

That alone sheds some light as to why this thing has done so well, even tempted to get myself one now.

Thanks for the accessory links, give me a good idea of what you can get for these things.

I got the screen guards, a shell type case (that snaps directly onto the unit, much like a cell phone case), and a USB charge cable, since I have a shortage of outlets around my PC at school. I'm not sure if I'll use the guards, but I figured for $7 it's no biggie if I decide against it. I'm just really anal about my gadgets and their cleanliness.

Thanks for the help fellas.
