I'm getting an EVGA 680i motherboard and a Conroe E6700 processor w/Arctic Freezer Pro. All of the Corsair Dominator memory is sold out at NewEgg so I was going to go with Corsair TWIN2X2048-8500C5 1066 RAM.

Anyone have this combo setup? I just want to make sure that this Corsair memory is good enough to get to a 3.5GHz overclock from the stock 2.66GHz on the E6700. TIA (cheers)

yep!

im on a e6600 stable at 3.6, so you should not have any trouble with a 6700.

good luck!

EDIT: i underclocked the ram but tightened the timings, down to 800 mhz 4-3-3-8 @ 2.3. it scores ~12 K 3dmark 06 with my vid card.

EDIT AGAIN: the regular C5's are the exact same chips, but make sure you have better airflow. (the dominators heatsinks are superior)

So I'm guess there's some sort of divider to keep the memory frequency lower while cranking up the processor frequency? I guess you don't really need fancy memory if you do it that way though right? hmm.. (xmastong)

Is your processor multiplier locked?

i think TWIN2X2048-8500C5 for that price is the best bargain, some were able to hit 1Ghz with 4.4.4.10... i think its a good deal!!!

Haha. I'm impatient too (xmastong) So maybe we can just tack on the Corsair Airflow fans to these chips to keep them cool?

Will they fit on these "non-Dominator" models? lol

So will you be able to overclock higher with the PC2 8500 compared to your PC2 6400?

with the 680i you can run the CPU and the RAM fsb unlinked.

and yes, it is locked at 9 :(

I saw a lot of people getting around the same o/c speeds on the E6600 so I figured why spend the extra $200 on the E6700 (xmasgrin) I hope I have the same luck as you guys and can get this E6600 around 3.5GHz.
