I made the mistake of taking my 360 over to my parents house. My father picked up a new 46" Samsung 1080p LCD a few days before Christmas. The picture is absolutly stunning. So viberant and crisp compared to what I am playing on now. It's like LCD was built for gaming.

I've so far I've gamed on a Sony 46" HDTV rear projection(just to big for my room) which I sold to currently having a Samsung 30" slimfit hdtv. I orginally had the ok to spend some money on a good tv but opt'ed for the slimfit becasue the cost/performance ratio just seemed goos when I bought it.

Anyways, that LCD blows away either of those two TVs. I just hooled my 360 back up to the slimfit and I wanna cry. My CRT just seems so dark and dingy now. Not to mention as of now the slimfit is my only tv for me and my wife. So getting my 360 on it's own display would be nice.

I'd like to go drop a couple of grand and get the samsung 40" 1080p lcd model but my wife put her foot down fast lol.

I have my affordable solution though.

I just bought a 19" lcd for $230 a couple of weeks ago for my pc. So being that I still am in the time frame of taking it back so I did for this....

$170 difference.

Nice specs, all the inputs you need and nice HD specs(including 1080p).

I'm running a 37in" 1080p Westinghouse LCD and am very happy with it. Great picture.

It only costs me $1300, and for the money, you really won't find a better display.

Yea, but $1300 is $900 more then this gateway. Nice chunk of change. lol

I screwed up when I got that samsung slimfit. I pretty much talked it over with my wife about getting a nice 32-40" lcd display but when I was looking 1080p was just breaking the market. I was a bit overwhelmed with the whole tv buying experience and just settled on a $650 30" crt to play it safe and let the market settle down a bit.. Ganted it's a really nice TV for the money but now after playing on my dads set, I really see the difference.

Getting this 22" gateway I'm hoping that I can get a little bit of the LCD love for the 360 that I witnessed on my dads set. Maybe just to get me through until Christmas 07'. Then I'll look at some 37-42" hdtvs. At least now I have a 22" PC monitor :D

I'm not the expert on AV stuff, but doesn't the 360 only really rnder 720p for games (and then upscales to 1080p)? If your just buying an HDTV for 360 gaming, I would consider going for just a 720p set, and I think there are quite a few 27"-32" LCD's in the $600-$800 range... if that's not too high for you.

I'm pretty sure it can render games in 1080 also as long as the game has the option. I do also need a pc monitor, so it's kinda the old, kill 2 birds with 1 stone scenario.

knghtwhosaysni is right. The the games will still be in 720p, but the 360 can upscale the output to 1080p. I doubt we will see 1080p native games on the 360. The 1080p is more for the HD-DVD addon.

So I'd be better off just running at 720p? At 22" 1080 even really needed? Or just set it to both and whatever I think looks better run at? I'm not really a video buff to say the least, just a graphics (w)hore :D

edit: (w)hore is outlawed..

I'd say stick with the 720p. You can get some pretty decent LCD sets for under 1k and they will be quite a bit bigger than 22 inches.

Yea, but that's still going to be $300-$600 more then I paid now plus I still need a pc monitor. So I'd have a double purchase reguardless. Which means a lot more money. I just got married so we went through and freshened up our house, new furnicher(sp?), etc plus the holidays and this **** economy here in Michigan. Money is just a bit tight. I'm not to worried about, I already know what I'm getting for next christmas :D ..

Oh sorry, I didn't see you needed a PC monitor as well. If your budget is that tight then you might as well got with the 22" pc monitor. It should do the job just fine. I was just trying to see if you could get a bit more screen size.(rudolf)

depends, most games support 720p, (few run in less then 720p: PGR3, CoD3, that new Tom Hawk game), most of the new games also support 1080i

Ok, well I hooked up the 360 and...I don;t like the picture through componet. Seems dark and washed out. Mind you I haven't played around with any settings except for setting it to the preset of Gaming from Gateway factory. Maybe I need to do some self adjusting. Also do I set the video scaling to 1:1?

PIP is kinda cool. lol

is that the new model gateway? I was little disapointed knowing they dropped the contrast ratio from 1000:1 to 700:1

Tyr-Sog,
That monitor looks awsome! I just picked up my Westy 22" and I can't wait to get home to check it out!

On a related note, I just seen in Sam's Club that they had Magnavox (http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=5&item=339014&pCatg=5879) this on their damaged/missing parts shelf!

All it is missing is the frickin' remote! They have it for 500 bucks!

Wow, huge difference using the VGA adapter over the components on this monitor. Picture is unbelievable. Well here's some pics. I did the best I could taking them and I'm sure I could use some minor tweaking as far as image setting go but it still looks phenominal.

I reduced the picture 50%

I can quarentee that no amature snap shot is going to be accurate in anyway to what we actually see. I'll take lcd gaming over crt gaming anyday of the week.(cheers)

hehe(xmasgrin) yep.

I'm not kidding when I said it ruined my experience at home. CRT is really starting to show it's old technology with hte current crop of new lcd's and technology hitting the market. If I could go back to October I would diffently just go ahead and drop the coin on a good lcd. But as the old saying goes, live and learn.

The Sony that he has is not just any CRT. It's probably the CRT as far as HD is concerned. Too bad you probably won't find one anymore.

As long as you are happy with your purchase is what matters though. So how about some pics of the actual setup?(xmasgrin)
