Okay at least in my opinion, I have noticed that the majority of movies that I would like to view in HD are all generally in Blu-ray! I swing by my local BestBuy about every week now and always check whats available in HD-DVD and there is nothing on those shelves that is not priced @ 37.99 that I would like to own.

On the other hand, I go over to the Blu-Ray section and I see tons more of DVDs in that section I would love owning. Maybe its just the selection of movies I specifically like, but IMO Blu-Ray currently has the much larger, better selection of DVDs. Dont get me wrong, I still love my HD-DVD add-on for xbox 360, but I cant stand the selection of movies at the moment and the pricing. Whats up with all the HD-DVDs pricing up to almost $40 a pop, at least for the newer release, when I go over to Blu-Ray and see all pricing at about $24.99-$29.99.

I just hope that some of these major film companies decide to produce with Blu-Ray and also HD-DVD, cuz I really dont feel like having to purchase a ps3 just for the blu-ray player to view DVDs in near HD quality than compared HD-DVD puts out. BTW, I went to BestBuy again today and viewed a Blu-ray player on demo and all I can say is HD-DVD quality OWNS :D

Strange...... HD-DVDs are cheaper over here, and there are far more of them about, possibly because there are no region restrictions.

Best Buy just has a crappy selection overall. The number one selling HD DVD is Batman Begins, and they don't have it around here. I have no clue what is wrong with them. I always just shop at Amazon.com. The prices are usually in line with normal DVDs (maybe a few dollars more), and shipping can be free. I've picked up Dune, Batman Begins, Swordfish, Red Dragon, 12 Monkeys, Army of Darkness, V for Vendetta and Serenity so far. Good stuff. Seems a lot of the stuff on Bluray is comedy or romance that I'm not interested in.

Yeah, the selection at Best Buy is pretty sparse. But, I'll admit, there are a hell of a lot of titles I'd love to have on BD, but I'm going to have to be patient and wait for those studios to wake up and start supporting HD DVD. The one studio I really wish would do this is Fox. They've got a number of my favorite franchises (Aliens, Predator, Rescue Me, The Shield, 24 [before it started sucking hard]) and it kills me they're going to be on BD first.

I think both formats have a nice selection so far. I'm looking forward to the Spiderman and James Bond series coming to Blu-Ray. Rumor has it that Bond should be coming sooner than expected. Star Wars is another one that should be good but no word on it yet.

I only own one comedy and no romance so far. The comedy I didn't even buy, it was Talladega Nights which came with the PS3. You have a good amount of other genres on Blu-Ray, Transporter 1/2, KoH, Pearl Harbor, BHD, League of Ext. Gentlemen, The Decent for your horror needs etc.

Yeah, those don't sound so bad. I was mostly just looking at their top 10 list which consisted of stuff like Click, The Devil Wears Prada, etc.

I'll always be a nerd at heart though, so HD DVD having Army of Darkness and Dune really locks me in.

I must not be a very good nerd though because Star Wars gets a big "meh" from me.

I've never been a Star Wars fan, so I couldn't care less. And even if I was a fan, I'd be pretty tired of giving George Lucas my money God knows how many times now for the same movies over and over.

Get Serenity if you don't already have it. :D

Any rumored dates on Bond? I havent seen it yet and heard great things about it so I'll probably pick it up.

Kinda funny reading this thread being a Blu-ray player owner. Theres a few HD-DVDs that I would love to go BD. Guess it's that reverse 'want what you cant have' effect. For example, I notice some PS3 owners wanting white colored PS3s, and 360/Wii owners wanting black 360/Wii's. If that even made any sense.

I've read that Casino Royale, along with several other Bond titles, should be announced at CES for a March release. Again just a rumor but I can see it happening.

I'll agree that BR has a couple of titles I wish that were on HD-DVD . . . Hopefully BR will die a quick death and then all of those titles will be released on HD-DVD. :D

There is not a much larger selection of BD's. That's a fact, can't be an "IMO" on how many titles are available.

The expensive discs are the dual format discs. If you are going to BB to buy movies then you need to be shot =)

Go to Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/Jet-Lis-Fearless-Combo-Format/dp/B000K2UW1A

That movie is $39.99 at Worst Buy.

Yeah, shop from Amazon. Better prices, better selection and if you buy 3 HD DVDs/BD on the same order, you get 10% off those and 10% off ALL HD DVD/BD purchases for a year from that order date. :D

Thanks, I'll be looking forward to seeing what news/gadgets come out of CES.

Looking it up on AVS, I hear Warner is going to bring Batman Begins and V for Vendetta over. Hope thats true. Those are two HD-DVD titles I really want. :)

Damn you love Sony, they could have sold you sand in a PS3 box and you'd have bought it.

Chill out buddy. If the PS3 had HD-DVD playback I would of done the same thing. I'm here for the games (now and in the future). Video playback on a console is a bonus to me. So don't get offended if I dont go to the store tomorrow to buy a HD-DVD player, I have nothing against the format. I just dont want to spend money at the moment.

Maybe sometime down the line in 07 I might, but right now I really don't care for it. I just happen to have a console that plays blu-ray movies so I'll buy blu-ray movies for now (the ones I'm interested in anyways). If it played hd-dvd movies I'd most likely buy those. And wouldnt go out to buy a blu-ray player. But obviously thats not the case. :p

You want to send me a free hd-dvd player? Then I'll have a reason to buy hd-dvd movies. Till then, I kinda got other things I want to spend money on first.

I think BestBUy is getting their special cut for having BluRays priced lower than HD DVDs. You can buy HD DVDs for $19.95 all around but at BB their price is doubled. The funny part is that even with doubled retail prices they still sell them like hot cakes.

BestBuy is a little strange. They own FutureShop up here and the HDDVD movies are usually priced a little less than the BD format. As MS released the HDDVD player for a mere $200 it was cheaper than getting a BD player, of which the cheapest around here runs $1000. As of note Toshiba is rumored to be releasing a $300 HD player at CES.

Given the studio support I'd expect BD to have a wider range of titles, but if the HD player numbers hit a 4x - 6x number over BD people will have to expect studios to start to switch to HD. Everyone knows that other than Sony the MPAA is interested in your money, and really couldn't give a rats ass what format they are selling it on.

I have Serenity on regular DVD, really good movie. I'm not going to be re-buying any movies in hd-dvd that I already have on dvd, I'll just get ones that add to my collection.

I shop at my local Target since the prices are around the same price as Amazon if you count shipping. I count shipping because I don't like Amazons free shipping since it would take to long to get to me. My BB and CC don't have that bad of prices....you can find alot of movies in the $20 range, but when it comes to new movies they costs anywhere from 29.99-39.99.
