The information is fake, the website that they quote is made by Fanatics with poor benchmarks. I mean they claim that Oblivion cannot run smoothly on the 8800GTX at high settings when many 8800GTX users will clearly say the opposite... I mean they even have the 8800GTX barely beating the 7950GX2 which is a load...

According to them, the site is linked two 2 AMD employees.

true or not, I have high hopes for the r600. The 8800 series has been a buggy nightmare imo, im still holding onto my 7900 until I see whats what comes Vista time.

I second this ststement. I feel the improved image quality, practically free AA, and superb performance in most any game I throw it them greatly outways the flaws with the drivers (which are the only flaws I've experienced with these cards).

I feel nVidia did a superb job with the 8 series.

Well of course not as the demo uses ATi only features like their memory compression.

Here's an interesting tidbit about that site level505 that posted the supposed new ATI R600 benchmarks..........

The site was created on 28th December, the domain registered on 28th December and it has only that one R600 article.

Now it does seem a tad strange don't you think that a brand new never before heard of site has such a big exclusive (conveniently without screenshots of course) before any other well known reputable review/tech site.

Koroush Ghazi from TweakGuides sums it up nicely............

"However the fact that the site was recently created and has just one article is not a good sign of legitimacy at all. Even if a group of real people broke off to create this site in the last few days, they should have a genuine front page. At the moment this article is their home page. Their About page contains highly suspicious information, focusing mainly on providing a channel for inquiries (legal and job inquiries - who has that on a blog?) and also seems to focus on specifically mentioning the ATI and Nvidia Trademarks. Finally, there are absolutely no details who the author(s) is/are, which is extremely unusual for a tech site, but even more so for a Blog which is what this site purports to be. How many sites have totally anonymous owners and authors? Nor does their Whois record reveal any information about who they are - again this has been hidden for a reason.

As it stands, the site appears to be either directly affiliated to ATI, or to an advertising agency for example, and hence the results need to be taken with a grain of salt. At the very least it's clear that something suspicious is going on as a legitimate website with real authors would be using this article to promote themselves, whereas the opposite is happening - this entire website is being used solely to promote this article"

you have a buggy mind for thinking on G80 as a nightmare .

no kidding.

If he liked the 7800, there is nothing he should have against the 8800 as it eclipses the 7x series in every possible way.

Except maybe if he can't get one and has e-penis envy (probably the case).

I will say one thing. 95% of the time these controversial "leaked benchmarks" turn out to be fairly accurate.

The performance numbers do make sense... I expected the R600 to be about 25%-30% faster.

No they don't because their 8800GTX numbers are lower then the norm. They state they can't play Oblivion at high settings smoothly when people like me can run it at beyond the games settigns perfectly fine.

"smoothly" really varies depending on who you talk to. For me, a constant 40fps is perfectly smooth, while others require 60fps, and others (even though I think they are lying when they say they can tell a difference) need 80fps.

Additionally, if there is further driver optimization from ATI, you might even come close to 30fps and experience absolutely fluid gameplay with the R600.

Since I didn't see an actual AA amount used, I just set it to application and turned on TSAA (so basicaly NO AA is used). Now mind you, Im running Texture mods that degrade performance substanstially. Oh and I have 16xAF on, forgot to turn it off... Oh and they are running a Core 2 Rig, Im using a weaker CPU... don't forget to take that into consideration...

These benchmarks are wrong and fake... They have some benches were the 8800GTX barely beats the 7950GX2 which we all know the 8800GTX stomps it in my games.

These numbers are way off the mark, like way off esp evident in 3DM05 and 3DM06. According to them FX-62 is faster than QX6700, not a little even, by allot.

Numbers I tested for our publication with 8800GTX (3DM05): (1600x1200 4xAA 16xAF)
======================================
AMD FX-62 (2.8GHz) : 12,397
Intel X6800 (2.93GHz) 12,697
QX6700 (From 505) : 11,039! :o (With a Quad Core right :/)

3DMark06 (1600x1200 4xAA 16xAF)
=======
QX6700 (from 505) :6368
FX-62: 7184
X6800: 7383

I am betting this site is a fake. Or, those are real performance numbers for R600 and they just crippled the other systems to make the R600 look better.

In Halo PC, I noticed a huge negative difference in how well I played after I got my 2407wfp. When setting it to 1920x1200 (halo doesn't support it natively) on my X1900XT, it was locked at 60fps. Before I was playing on a 17 inch LCD @ 1280x1024 with 300fps. You may not be able to see the difference, but you sure can feel it. I now play at 1600x1200, because the 60fps drives me crazy.

Anyone who thinks 505's benchmark numbers are real is insane.

the benchmark says it jumps up to 20% performance boost over G80 in games?
.... i believe that when me **** turns purple, and smells like rainbow sherbert....

the refresh of a 2407 is 60 Hz, so at 60 fps, you shouldnt have noticed anything...
