Not surprised. AMD/ATI = Second rate company

Whole lotta shoulda/coulda/woulda in that Inquirer post. :P
I love news sites that takes any source they receive and report on it, whether it is reliable or not. :D :D :D :D
However, AMD/ATI is making severe changes to the whole line up and we can say that this launch, when it happens, will be very, very shocking for the 3D industry.
You think AMD/ATI is a little worried ? :D It mentions that NV will be first to
80nm with the G80... Viral marketing/and major spin control here in this 'news'
report, yeah I bet they are making "severe changes" after seeing what G80 can
do...

What exactly can the g80 do? Last time I checked it was still bottlenecked by cpus and crippled by drivers?

Plays any game on the market perfectly fine aslong as the game/drivers work (which is the majority, very few games have a big issue).

I am playing a game in beta right now, and while it didn't work at first, it didn't take long to patch it (it was code, not a driver issue)...
The Inq thing though, you have to take with a grain of salt. Makes me think though, they used to have a good relationship with ATI (but not NV). I wonder if AMD put the kabash on that and now they are somewhat pissed. Or they still get solid info from ATI and this article is accurate. We will find out in the next few months either way.

What the hell is with these people I keep seeing who have low post counts and just seem to come into threads making stupid and idiotic statements such as this one? I keep seeing these guys at nvnews and all they do is make arguments for/against this or that CPU/GPU.
The last revision of the prototype chip - upon which a certain "pre-review" is based - also suffers from problems which are serious enough to get another re-spin, sources tell me.
Do they mean that fake level505 review?
This delay the inq states sounds aboot as credible as the level505 r600 review.

Hmmm not sure where you checked, definitely not bottlenecked by enthusiast CPU's :)

WHo says that the R600 wont be bottlenecked by the same CPUs? I mean... if it isnt then its definatly not as powerful as the 8800 eh?

They performed a level-2 diagnostic on the chip, AMD/ATI saw a flaw in the chips micro fusion matrix and they decided to send the chip backwards through a hole in the space-time continuum. The next step is to re-align the dilithium matrix which could take several weeks.
And they say that The Inquirer tech correspondence course is a waste...pffft.

didnt you see the email that it was the Flux-Capacitor?

Naw, apparently our access point to the Bothan Spy Network has been down, so I can't login to check e-mails. Chewie said it was the hyper drive motivator, apparently its been pulverized. Oh well, back to pulling ears off Gundarks.
So...I guess that's enough of ultra-geek mode for the day...

I have to agree with that. But, it is normal human behavior to not want, ridicule or slander anything they cannot afford. I always see these comments from people who do not even have, or have used, and 8800 based card. I have played many games and have yet to see any issues.
As for those with the card, I have also seen people claiming that the 8800 GTX is soley responsible for their highly OC'd PC's blue screens, random reboots, and lock-ups. I always tell them to look elsewhere, but they indicate that it worked with their 7800 GTX and this is the only change. Well, that is simply wrong. If you have a GPU constrained system, your CPU and supporting architecture do not work that hard. You get a new GPU which now creates a CPU constrained system, and the CPU and supporting architecture are worked over in ways they have never been. All of a sudden a stable OC is unstable. Yup, must be the 8800GTX, and, in a way, it is. Except, this time, it is simply exposing a weakness in the system.
But, either way, I have been following the R600 for some time, and the initial specs from the days where the G80 was still a hybrid with a non-unified arhcitecture, 64 unified shaders was somehow a bragging right. I think ATI was a little set aback by the G80 release with 128 unified shaders. They might be revisiting their architecture to create a superset.
You guys crack me up. Where's Capt. Picard when you need him?:captnkill:

While I don't trust the Inquirer any farther than I can throw it (how do you throw a web site?), I have to disagree with your sentiment.
Any GPU can be bottlenecked by the CPU on a simple enough rendering task. There's no news there. What's interesting is how complex a rendering task a GPU can perform at an acceptable frame rate, and HardOCP's review shows that the G80 bests other card on the market.
Another way of looking at the same thing is that the G80's benchmark scores are double the scores of the 7900. That's absolutely phenomenal. Scores didn't double going from the 6800 to the 7800 or from the 7800 to the 7900.
And if the 8800 is able to double the scores of the 7900, that implies that neither one was CPU bottlenecked.
The bottom line is that if you're CPU-limited, you should turn up the eye candy in the game until you're not.

The jump from the 6800Ultra to the 7800GTX did double performance when I look at Tom's Interactive VGA Charts:

I know, right. May as well quote the Inquirer again.

I don't think the Level 505 review was "fake" , the Level 505 guys told Daily Tech they are employed by ATI marketing.
So, the Level 505 "review" is slanted in every way possible to show make ATI cards look better than nVidia cards.
IMO, that's worse than fake. (at least from a buyer's perspective)
If ATI wants to "leak" benchmarks, they should give some review samples to AT, Rage3d, nVNews, FS, H, THG, B3d, etc., hold an Editors Day, and end their NDA on the product rather than publishing phoney baloney "benchmarks" on a PR website.
My guess is they were surprised by the level of performance and image quality the G80 brought, and went back to the drawing board hoping some re-spins can get clock speeds high enough to compete well.
Or that it's just not done.

It seem The Inquirer are right about R600 delay again as I found the Digitimes news (http://www.digitimes.com/mobos/a20070105PD210.html) from Beyond3D headline that AMD denied R600 is due to launch on 22 January, they hadnt set the launch date yet, March launch is possible. Level500's R600 review is fake, the author said he will provided the picture of R600 card on 5 January as the date had passed, he made more excuses claimed the QX6700 had developed heat problem and he said "We are holding them back until we are sure the performance was not biased by this. It’s not gonna take long." It no wonder he also said "So take our benchmarks with a grain of salt so far".
It's a shame that AMD/ATI is taking so long to release this card. While I am going Nvidia for the second PC in a row I did own 3 ATI cards before that and was quite happy with them. At this rate Nvidia will already have their refresh ready to go. It will be interesting to see how this card's IQ is as Nvidia has that crown now with the G80. I am aware of the problems people have with the drivers but now that the holidays are over I bet we see a decent driver release before this month is out.
