View Full Version : 256mb r350= lame
hellbinder i think u are wrong on this one.
r350 9800pro 256mb will have 380core/
ati is hoping to keep the SAME bandwith for the 256 version as the regular r350 version. and itll be out in a month or too. only reason for ddr2 is power consumption.

Didn't you see the specs for FIC on the web? 400/460

I don't see how it was done for power reasons. Unless they're getting the ram from someone else, I don't think Samsung has 256Mbit chips yet. That would mean they'd have to put 16 chips on the PCB which I think would end up using more power than 8 256Mbit DDR chips. Not to mention require a larger and more (probably) expensive PCB

You've got that all messed up, dude (or FS has). The only reason for the clockspeeds to be the same is power consumption (range conformity aside). The DDR-II board draws way more power per-clock than A075. Per chip, the saving is probably only about 30% and there are twice as many of them!
MuFu.

He probably got banned from [H] and is now over here making trouble. I'd expect his brother to show up soon as well.

Since all high endcards now have extra power connectors why would more power be a concern?
Most of the people who would buy em probly have a 'good' powersupply.
Eg. the ciggaret lighter 'mod' in an empty drive bay thigney attaches to your 12v rail, and sucks a LOT of power. If you push it in with a generic PS (one with a very low 12v wattage) your computer will probly lock up.
But i can actually use that with my Enermax just fine.
Basicly the top ends of Powersupplsy are *retail*
Enermax
Antec
Vantec.....

For the end user enthusiast market, power isn't as much of a concern. This is why it's expected that the r350 will be readily overclockable to 420+ Mhz; it's set at 380 only to reduce power consumption for the OEMs' benefit.
Well on the PLUS side you can play Unreal 2k3 & 2 with ultra high settings which use over 160MB of video card memory
