Shame its Ultra (lee63)

From [H]

Ultra Products, a global leader in technology solutions, today announces that it will unveil the world’s first 2000W ATX Power Supply Unit for the PC at next week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The Ultra X3 Modular 2000W PSU has a footprint similar to some competitors’ 1000W units (just 10.25 inches) and is 80% efficient under typical loads.

That's what I've been hearing. The new Ultra x3 is based off of FSP group's PSU, so it might give PC&P a run for their money.

80% efficent is pretty good, it will be interesting to see if it's one or mutiple rails.

One rail with 150 amps would be kinda sexy :)

With the +12V rail being rated at 1800W that means it can handle an amazing 150A load!

I just creamed a bit.

I had an Ultra X-Connect 500. My fan controller shorted out, melted the wires, which meted the other wires bundled together, and eventually melted just about every wire in my case. The PSU didn't stop there - it took out ram, cpu and mobo! By the time I got back downstairs where my pc is, the stupid thing was still humming.

I swore to never buy anything with the name Ultra on it again. I mean, you'd think they would at least have some type of over current protection that kicks in before burning up everything.

Now, I wonder what 2000w could do to my system, or house! Big OUCH!!

WTF. Don't you need a dryer hookup for this thing? AFAIK you'll start tripping breakers in quite a few houses when pushing 1200 watts continuous.

All I'd ever need is a Tagan 1100 watt I think.
Unless I ever decided to run high watt TEC's or something in conjunction with the rest of my system.

I hope we never need that much power in our computers. That is beyond rediculous. If 2kw PSU's become necessary for a high end rig I'd give up this hobby in a heart beat. 2Kw for gaming is unrealistic. I'd go with consoles instead.

yeah its insane. The CNC machines I run at work draw only 2000 watts under a really high load...
