View Full Version : Windows Vista RTM 97.46 Drivers - Release Date: January 5, 2007
My Spidey Sense is tingling.
In what might be the saddest experience of my life, I had a dream last night about a thread with the new Vista drivers in it. Very...very sad. Pathetic might cover it better.

Guys where the heck do you get this wrong ass info regarding builds, there is a build everyday geez!, Technet != new builds! im using 6001 build from Thursday!!
Oh and just an FYI Longhorn code != Vista later builds! Longhorn branched off a while back.
As for drivers well....heh, what could be released got released to you guys...patience is key eh?

Well obviously there's a build every day, but those are all internal builds. TAP gets builds about once a week. TechBeta about once a month, same with MSDN.
"what could be release, got released..." So nVidia lets you guys leak builds? Interesting...

That was my personal statement ;)
Well got an email from Microsoft that vista will be available everywhere from 19/01/07 which is 10 days time. If nvidia don't have near perfect drivers this will make or brake nvidia. Once the reviews come out with the new Vista Vs XP and performance is not up to scratch this will hurt them allot more then you know. Enthusiasts are small but have big mouths. This has hurt ATi for many months even through their drivers have much much improved people still slag off their drivers. From early results so far Ati's performance is on par with XP for vista with DX still no Open GL driver mind, while nVidia's is lagging behind XP and in some case by large hit. The idea of the beta drivers to test them with games and pass information onto their internal testing team. As they have no beta this cannot be done, don't get me wrong games like Fear, Half-life 2 and the most popular games will run fine however the not so major titles will suffer, best case slow performance worse case massive screen corruption/BSOD's. If they driver end up being that bad this will hurt nVidia big time. In the end they are just shooting their selves in the foot.
You only get one first impression.

8800 runs badass under vista, youll have the goodness soon. FSX looks LOADS better than XP, also for gaming under Vista please install december 2006 sdk, it contains the neccessary D3DX10 files, will really improve performance under vista for other cards as well.
Are you blowing smoke or are you for real??

Vista x64 Question:
Has anyone actually validated the driver version in the device manager actually *successfully* installs? Setup installer says it completes successfully, but rebooting shows the old built-in MS WDDM from August (v96.86). Forcing a manual update pointing to the new 97.46 "nv_disp.inf" leaves me with the error:
"The system cannot find the file specified"
I'm running a 7950 GX2, but I've swapped for my older 6150 to see the same behavior so I believe the question applies to all cards.
Same problem described here on LockerGnome (http://help.lockergnome.com/vista/nVidia-RTM-drivers-January-2007-ftopict24361.html).
Thanks~
P.S. Can anyone confirm Vista Aero works with a 'Rotated Display' (e.g. 90 degrees to the left: Portrait mode) The more me thinks about the way Aero is designed, I bet it's not possible.

nVidia or ATI must have some decent drivers for Vista now, as there are videos on gametab.com of both Halo 2 and Geometry Wars running very well on Vista. Dont know what cards were in those machines though... if they were 7900 or 8800, or maybe X1900s.
EDIT: It's Forceware 100.30.
In Vista x64 RTM these drivers are rubbish.
Farcry 64 bit looks terrible, some realy texture issues. And Halflife 64 bit will not even load.
The origional microsoft driver looked excellent in Farcry 64 bit and no problems in Halflife 2 either. Unfortunately i can't roll back the driver...
Can anyone suggest another driver for me to try with my 7600 GT?
Cheers
