nothing that i can see

check the 5th post of this thread for screenshots http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7245

screenshots using Application are set to Quality, Balanced set to Performance. the mip maps look the same to me.

any chance it refers to trilinear vs bilinear, in which case perhaps if the app has trilinear=1 then the setting wouldn't have any bearing?

perhaps you misunderstoof me before. Balanced/Performance uses a faster filtering algorithm than Application.

setting Application sets AF to Quality. besides the obvious speed difference, they should be identical.

Application might also use tri/bi depending on what the game is set to. Balanced should not force tri or bi.

In older drivers, before nvidia implemented the Application/Balanced/Aggressive system, AF would use bilinear if the game was using it, and trilinear if the game was using it. it would not force trilinear.

with the gfFX series, it is different. Application is the only setting that can use true trilinear. i don't know if it forces it or not, again, i doubt it.

you can see what Balanced and Aggressive look like with colored mip maps in this thead here http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8336&perpage=25&pagenumber=2

edit: i know for a fact that Balanced does not force trilinear.
