Same price. The dell looks sick and I've heard nothing but great things about dell monitors and my 17" samsung synchmaster has performed flawlessly the last 2 years. Zero dead pixels.

So it's kinda a stale mate? If they have equal performance, I'd buy the dell just on it's looks.

What do you guys think?

I think I'd pass on both, they're 6 bit panels.

Don't the Dell monitors use Samsung panels?

The 2007wfp has turned into a crap shoot. You might get one of the best monitors on the market with a sweet IPS panel in it (my girlfriend has one and its a dream)...or you can get one with a really crappy PVA in it (I've seen these at work and its like going back in time 3 years with backlight uniformity, contrast, and viewing angle).

Then I guess I get a perfect one with an S-IPS panel :D

Samsung and NEC make better Monitors then Dell. :D

Dell gives you sometimes a bit of a better panel then the others, but overall their quality is still lower.

Eh, after reading around, I think I'm going to just wait and let the prices of the IPS/MVA/PVA's to drop.

I think when I can get a decent 20~22" without the TN display for $300 I'll bite. But right now, $300 is the absolute limit.

I need a new mobo/cpu/ram/videocard more than I need a new monitor... It's my wife that's wanting a flat panel.. so instead of buying 2, I'd just give her my samsung and get a bigger one for myself (which she's cool with).

For $300 the Dell then is your best bet.

Why not save a bit more and get a 24 inch?

Well, I gotta draw the line somewhere. Why not 26.. or 28 or however big they'll continue to get.

I've seen a couple of 22, 20 and 24" LCD's at best buy, circuit city and a couple of other places and 20/22 seems to be what looks the best to my eyes. when looking at the 24, I was scooting back from the screen some.. almost like sitting at the front row of the movie theater. Yeah it was bigger but more uncomfortable. :o

Unless some killer deal for a great 24" comes my way, I'll pass.

Are you using it for general browsing, apps, and stuff like that? If you are considering games, that 6800GT won't fly. I couldn't keep the performance I wanted on a 19" sammy @ 1440 x 900. SLI on 6800's worked great so there is hope there.

I've seen the 2005 or 2007, can't remember which one it was now, and it looks simply amazing. I think it looked better than my 940bw by a decent amount. I've read pretty good things about the 205bw, so I'm sure it is probably fairly close in comparison to the dell 2007. I don't think I'd go with the 225bw simply because of the backlight bleeding.

I play games on a 19" widescreen, meaning 1440x900, with one 6800GS. It runs games quite fine albeit a bit slow at times, but do I care? No (although a better video card would be a treat). Do I like my monitor? Yes. Personally, I think he'd be fine with the SLI 6800GT's.

yeah I have a 7800gs which isn't much faster than the 6800 line and everything runs great here at that res.

Well, dual 6800's is not an option since I'm still sporting the good old AGP :thumbdwn:

That won't last long though as I've got some money stashed aside I'm saving up for a totally new system.

I'm at a gaming lull right now where I've beaten all the games I've wanted to and really am more focused on music recording and mixing than gaming at the moment. It won't be until Crysis comes out that I'll probably get back into gaming.

So high res bad performance in gaming isn't an issue at the moment.

A fellow NVnews member pm'd me offering a Dell 2005FPW for sale. all the reviews I've read have been great.

any of you guys had experience with this dell? Anandtech had a great review of it vs a 20" Apple display and both use the same chips and panel and they came to the conclusion that the dell beat the apple.
