lol

At the Consumer Electronics Show CES in Las Vegas, the HD DVD Promotion Group made a bevy of announcements at their press conference Sunday night.

The conference began with a short man-on-the-street video poking fun (mostly) at the competition, complete with this classic response when a person was asked if they knew what Blu-ray was:

"Is that a porn star?"

While CES might be taking place in Vegas, the rest of the video was tamer, and ended with A/V guru Joe Kane touting the capabilities of HD DVD.

The big news coming out of the conference included the announcement of new community features for HD DVD users, new members of the HD DVD camp and new content for 2007.

Craig Kornblau, president of Universal Studios Home Entertainment and chairman of the HD DVD Promotion Group, announced that more than 300 new HD DVD titles will be released by studios in 2007, including the Matrix trilogy, Blade Runner and the original Star Trek series digital re-mastered.

Kornblau also discussed why the camp thinks it is important that many HD DVD titles come as combo discs with standard DVD. "We see combo discs as a way to transition from DVD to HD DVD," he said.

One of the points hammered home at the conference was the importance of a standards in all HD DVD products, which is allowing the debut of community features, including downloading trailers, movie show times, and a new feature that allows users to share custom movie clips.

Kevin Collins of the HD DVD Promotion Group demoed the sharing feature, which lets users send defined clips from movies over the Internet to their friends (assuming they also have the title on disc). Users can start and stop custom movie clips with one-button begin and end functionality and the player will store the clip in the unit's memory and upload it over the network to send to a friend.

Bolded key statements. Blu-ray = zero standards = subpar experience. BD feels like a home user ripped version of a movie. The attitude of the BD camp is "just throw it on there". Then The Descent come out with BD-J ( crap ) and it doesn't even work on Sony's $1,000 BD player.

The HD DVD Promotion Group can have their bull**** conference with graphs and "predictions", but it doesn't change reality. How consumers can support such nonsense and hype is beyond me. HD DVD is hyped in the same nonsensical "lie to the consumer" fasion as the Xbox360 was.

Wow, this is fun.

Wow, this is fun.

What's the HD DVD camp lied about? HD DVD has consistently delivered every time. You know exactly what you are getting.

BDA conference = different from reality.

HD DVD group = actual reality

BD is getting killed. Nothing changes that. I know, I should yield to you, the huge Home Theater fan of many years who only supports BD due to PS3 ownership. Can you leave your console love out of this please? Damn, you've been rayed hard.

Oh look, Evil_Chris has to try to dive in to try and squash the bluray monster.
Bring us more tales of how Sony raped your ancestors, and then we can have your little sidekick come and play the parrot role.

What's the Blu-ray monster?

I find it amusing the BD "fans" in this forum are all PS3 drones. My HT hobby is well known, and was established long before even the Playstation 1. Hex and OWA on the otherhand... recently PS3'd by the Raygun!

Don't be an idiot and let a gaming console think for you. I know tEH cELL is capable of that, but try to resist.

That's okay, it's not a shrine to me. It's just technology, not something to worship. :)

Have you seen reviews on the new XA2 by Toshiba? Apparently it renders external scalars ( which can cost over $5,000 for an average one ) obsolete. It being regarded as the finest optical player in the world, and the ultimate player as it produces the finest playback ever seen of HD DVD *as well as* your DVD collection. If you are a technology fan, I recommend snagging one. At $999, it is the same price as most BD players yet infinitely superior.

It is... have you seen the announcements from Fox and Disney? The titles coming out this year for Blu-Ray are insanly amazing and FAR outweigh the crappy titles Universal has.

Well, I feel sorry for those companies because when BR fails as a movie format (not too far from here), they will have to re-release those titles on HD-DVD. Talk about a waste of their money and time huh? :D :D :D
