well, like the topic says, i need a good reliable 2.5 inch USB HDD case.

my current one is a piece of ****, uses a myson chip controller.

I need a case that doesn't have myson chip. this stupid myson chips gives me horrible performance.

I have one of these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817155704

Very cheap, seems to have pretty consistent performance and I've never had a single problem with it. I don't really have much use for it anymore since I stopped working at a computer shop but it got a ton of use for about a year.

Looks nice too.

Heh, looks like its the same brand. It says Myson Century.

*shrug*

Works great for me though.

Works great for me though.

my myson based case has the same problems on 3 pcs, with 2 different hdds (hitachi and segate).

both hdds work fine with laptop to ide adapter.

I really need to find a 2.5 enclosure with chip from another company.

btw, what is the number on it? maybe just the version in my enclosure is horrible.

3.5inch enclosure with cypress chip works good for me.

Its really tiny and hard to read but I think this is what the chip says:

Myson Century
CS88186-107
0510804061

I've got a 40gb Samsung Spinpoint drive in it.

Hope that helps. :)

Here is my benchmark for comparison:

EDIT: BTW, I've got an NTFS and a FAT32 partition on here, if that makes any difference.

Do you have any spare USB cables around? Maybe yours has a problem.

I guess anything is possible though. Id say some part of your enclosure is defective though since mine has the same chip and works fine.
